Question SweetFx and VAC

Could you get VAc-banned for using SweetFX Shader Suite?
Its in this nvidia guide for making graphics look better.
I installed it and graphics realy looks nicer, sharper.
This could be an advantage so i ask you if you can get VAC-banned because of this.

I would wait to see what an experienced steam admin says here and I might even email steam directly to be sure. This appears to be a graphics utility to improve the overall quality of your graphics. I don't see this as a cheat or exploit, but what do i know? LOL
Good find though and i'll try it on my private DayZ server and see what happens.

If it injects data into the EXE of the game, then yes, VAC will ban you.

Don't take the risk... the graphics in the game are pretty rubbish anyway, so no shader injector will make it on par with today's graphics.

There is no point to using it, especially at the risk of being banned.

SweetFX does not inject data into the EXE of the game.

While people call the shader mods injectors, they are not code injectors in the original meaning of the word, in that they do not inject code into another process, but have their own separate process.

SweetFX is a set of shaders that run using the InjectSMAA dlls which is a Direct3D proxy dll that redirects the Direct3D render surface to another surface and then runs an extra shader pass on that surface before returning the output to the backbuffer.

VAC rules does not explicitly state that this is allowed, but neither does it state that this is not allowed.

Since Valve have never explicitly stated that it is allowed, it remains a grey area, but in the two years that such shader mods have existed no one have ever been banned for using them.

VAC seems to only detect things which can be used to cheat and shader mods such as FXAA tool and SweetFX can not be used to cheat.

As far as I know VAC does only ban for known hacks and does not ban on suspicion. That said I don't think that you can get banned for using SweetFX.

Yes it can. It is also possible to be banned by treyarch's anti cheat. I would take it off bro.

the prudent thing to do would be to contact treyarch support and ask the question. then if they say it is ok, and you do get banned, it will be easier to overturn if you have a go ahead from an employee. then they wouldn't be able to say it was any wrong doing.

Problem is, sweetfx may be used in limited way as texture hack, making enemies easily detectable by bright colors. So inho its bannable as long, as 3arch/vac cant determine how its configured.

So i got my answer from steam support.

As i can translate they wrote that they dont test third party software for VAC-campatibility.
The use of "any" software with steam is in your own risk. But they also wrote that VAC bans only for known cheats, nothing else.

Its like CeeJay.dk wrote and a bit better.
Btw thank you very much for this software CeeJay.
Many games looks really nice with that on, thats what you need as a pc-gamer with so many console ports with its low graphics...

Ill will turn it back ON now.

Yes but its in german.

Hallo,

U can be banned 2 different ways in this game. One on Vac, and one on Treyarch anti-cheat which over rules vac in this game.
