An unexpected error has occurred. Your code could not be redeemed at this time.

When I redeem my $20 steam wallet code, this message comes up. I tried multiple times on steam and in a web browser with now luck. What do?

Did you purchase it from Best Buy? It may not be activated.

Same thing is happening to my card that I did get at Best Buy. The guy on the register was complaining of problems he was having, that the machine was hanging a bit when scanning mine and other steam gift cards. So maybe the card had trouble being activated.

I sent in a ticket to Steam support, so we shall see what needs to be done.

If the card wasn't activated by Best Buy then you must contact them to activate it for you. We cannot accept an unactivated cards or issue new codes.

Well, it would be nice to know if the card wasn't activated instead of just giving us an unspecified error and leaving it to the customer sort out what actually is wrong and who is to blame.

I won't actually know what is wrong until Steam support gets back to me on the matter. Not that I'm blaming Steam for it, it's just that I wish you guys were more expressive of what is happening when a a code is not accepted. It would save some time on my end waiting for response during which I might miss a steam sale.

A tip for anyone buying any gift cards. Always get some form of confirmation (normally a separate receipt) from the retailer at the end of the transaction. It can help sort out any issues you may have with the retailer with issues similar to this one.

no it woudlnt at all. support accounts are separate for security reasons. It allows you to recover a hijacked account.

Same here. $20 Steam Wallet code purchased at Best Buy. "An unexpected error has occurred. Your code could not be redeemed at this time.

Getting the same exact problem. Parents gave me the card this morning and when I tried putting it in, got the error. They said that Best Buy was having problems authenticating the cards yesterday, but after they went back later that day, they said they could do it. Apparently not though.

Pretty ridiculous in my opinion and I think besides saying "An unexpected error has occurred", a little more insight into the problem would help. Contacting support isn't really going to anywhere if it's a problem with Best Buy.
