Exclamation Steam can't connect to the internet

Hi,

I have a problem with Steam that I hope someone can help me with, because I'm getting desperate here.

Few days ago I played steam games and everything was fine, but yesterday I suddenly couldn't log into steam offline mode (I play mainly offline, but that day played both offline and online). Said that it "could not connect to Steam network", but that has happened before so I decided to just run it online. When I tried, steam update showed for a few moments and then the same message "could not connect to Steam network" showed up.
I restarted computer, and tried again, but it just repeated itself. I tried everything I could find on the support forums and nothing.

Here is the list of things I tried:

-Check if Windows or Comodo firewall started blocking it suddenly. But nothing blocks it.

-Removing clientregistry.blob and AppUpdateStats.blob. Nope, doesn't help.

-Log into steam via website, and then run steam. Failure as well

-Finally deleting everything besides steamapp folder and steam.exe. Yeah it changed something, now I get the update then message "Steam.exe (main exception): to run Steam, you must first connect to the internet".

-Launching steam installer, and choose "repair". See above.

-Reinstalling steam. Again "Steam.exe (main exception): to run Steam, you must first connect to the internet".

No new software or hardware was added to my computer.

Can someone help me?

only two ways to check a firewall not blocking uninstalling it or re-config it.
step two in this FAQ
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...2198-AGHC-7226

try deleting the winui.gcf in the steamapps folder see if that fixes it.

I offered two suggestions , it sounds you only tried one of them.

can you start steam in windows safemode+networking?
make sure you have internet by opening a website with your browser first.

Comodo is a good firewall, but I had to stop using it because even it was good configured, it started to block things...

My suggestion is to invest your money in a good router and use the router's firewall!

Also, Why do you have Windows and Comodo firewalls running at same time????

Honestly, I didn,t realize it was on. Normally it's disabled once I instal Comodo, but I realized it was on, so I decided to check.

Anyway the problem has been solved. The comment about router had me asking my father if he is really sure he did nothing to it, turned out he started using router firewall...

With router firewall off Steam works just fine, we will work on adding an exception or something.

Thank You both for Your time!
