Update 3: Nasty Butler
We hope you guys had a great new year. We spent some time chewing on your feedback, drinking far too much eggnog, and stretching our legs with the tools that we’ve built so far. This update continues to focus on making gameplay more fun, and making visuals feel even more visceral. Changelog

I like the points/signal mechanic. I'm assuming score multiplies point value? If so, it works pretty well, and the graphical cues are quite nice.
I have to admit though I'm still quite the rotational alignment based points plates of yesteryear. The prebuilt Potato levels were some of the best fun I've had with Kick It, and the loss of them in the transition to Unity sort of saddens me. |

The perspective change is quite interesting, it's a bit tricky to get used to, specially with levels where all the pipe segments are facing straight down. I seem to spend a lot of time headbutting the inside of small pipes that I've crossed the play area to get the delicious pickup inside.
The signal changes seem a bit odd but I'm guessing signal degrading over time is there to stop people just maxing it out and going for the score pickups while ignoring signal. |

I love the supersaturation, it's awesome, I want more of it. Needs about two billion particle effects, ♥♥♥♥ exploding everywhere in fractal rainbow numbers to show my score and signal.
The levels seem to react much better to wavelength or a song's "messiness" or something, which is neat. The tubes are nice, and I love the stair pattern stuff. Generally feels like more of a game. It's a bit hard to see my score and signal, I'd like those to show up when I grab points and signals. There's still not enough variation in the levels. And it's still cutting off a bit at the beginning of the song and I'm still hearing some pops while I play, so the audio stuff could really use some attention. Cool stuff, Dejobaan. Keep it up. |

Update
I really like what has been done with the update, although it seems too easy to keep your signal above 100%.
What I'd like to suggest, and I'm not sure if this would work, is having a system where, as the signal decreases (maybe 70% and below), the song would gradually start to sound like there's static. Also, having a cap for the signal, like around 150%, would be nice. Still, as it is, I'm really enjoying the update

I like that but for me it seems to scroll the wrong way around (down is up, up is down) unlike most other programs, other than that it's fine.
The game seems to be bugged for me, I'm playing the DRP theme and this shows up http://i.imgur.com/rUxMlct.png and nothing else. I can't move or see anything other than what is shown in that image, I can see the crosshairs and I like the idea that you can choose from them like we can now and forcing people to be stuck with one wouldn't be a good idea imo. I'm going to try playing with different settings and songs to see if I can get this game to work or reinstall it. Anyone else get what I get? edit: trying different songs and graphical settings provided no fix, Reinstalling now. edit 2: no luck I'll try deleting the folder in steamapps and restarting steam now.edit 3: Nope, am I missing something? Maybe it's meant to be like this or I'm forgetting something? During the loading of a song I seem to get the stock windows ding noise for when you do something windows doesn't want you do, does that happen to anyone else? Okay something is actually wrong because even after a song finishes playing it says at the same screen as my original screenshot. Last edited by joelyay: 01-25-2013 at 02:31 PM. |

Couple of issues since and before the last patch.
Before the patch... (that still applies) 1. Navigating the song selection menu is a pain in the ♥♥♥. Why isn't the menu categorized like it is in say... Symphony or Audiosurf? In Audiosurf, its categorized according to your pc's folder structure, and in Symphony its done by artist and album names if possible. Personally, I feel the Audiosurf method is better. Also... no matter what method you go with, you need to put functionality on the mouse wheel to let us scroll faster through the menu. Or let us zoom up and down the menu with the arrow keys. Preferably both. Thing is... thanks to my penchant for collecting videogame soundtracks on the cheap, I have over 1000 songs and audiofiles that work for this game... which makes repeatedly clicking a button a painfully slow process. 2. I don't know if this has changed all that much, but before the patch, I couldn't tell how different songs made the levels any different. I tried out several songs with a variety of tempos, instruments, and styles to encompass both slow-and-heavy beats and intense fast-paced songs. How do I know how slow or fast my songs are? Because I've played them in Audiosurf, and in that game, it is ALWAYS clear how the music influences the level. Here, I have no clue as the levels don't seem to differ all that much. 3. 'DNA of a city' what's this rubbish on about? Could someone please explain to me why this appears on the store page of an Audiosurf-like? Now... after the patch... No matter what my graphics settings are... I don't get an option for the '?' city, and when the level does load... I can't see anything. All I see is a small gray circle near the center of the screen... and everything else is completely black. What the hell is going on? |

Good lord, don't take the song browser from Symphony. I have about 3000 songs in that and getting through them is a nightmare. The Audiosurf one wasn't much better.
If you're going to rip off a song browser, use the one from iTunes. Actually don't, those guys love to sue, but you get what I mean. I want proper tag reading, search, sort by album/artist/genre/whatever other crazy ID3 tags I happen to use (the Mood tag is awesome!)... Or just give me an "open X.mp3 with Kick It" command line thing so I can hook something up to open songs straight from Mediamonkey. That'd be awesome. EDIT: Oh, Steam just updated the game again and now I'm getting the problem too. I see a lot of NullReferenceException and other error looking thingies in output_log.txt, you want I should email y'all that file or anything else? Riddle me this: the update broke the game for me.
Tried re-installing (my initial thought was it's because of my upgrade to win8), didn't fix it. Here's what's going on: 1. Game launches fine and dandy, can pick songs and all. 2. After picking a song, during the "decompressing" stage I hear an error message sound in the background, but no error message is shown. The process continues and finishes (about 5 times faster than it should). 3. I press play and all I see are blur lines. No pick ups as far as the eye can see. I tried both stock and my own songs. H4LP PL0X. |

Sorry about that! We tried to apply a quick update that gave us a few more problems than we set out to fix.
![]() Regardless, we've rolled that back, and you should be able to update to a build that works. The score pickup placement will be a little jittery in this version, but we'll have a fix for that up in a couple of days at the latest. Sorry about the issues, let me know if this resolves it for you all! Last edited by mcarriere: 01-26-2013 at 08:03 AM. |
