At this point, the answer to both those question is "We don't know, but we really hope so".

It would be a good idea to incorporate this new steam early access thing, could boost the sales a bit.

Based on an earlier post by Almir he will give us word when the game will be available for preorder. I hope this time round they give us the opportunity to preload the game before release. But on the beta, nobody really knows for sure if they're gonna allow beta access.

with a game like payday there really isn't any point to have an open beta

it doesn't need extensive testing like an MMO does. I suspect they will have pre-orders available with some exclusive pre-order masks but that's it.

Well Payday 1 has had some open betas in the past to test out patches and what not. Even Payday 2 will require a fair bit of beta testing to ensure the netcode works, the game is balanced, and the game is generally stable and who better to do that then its dedicated community?

5.000 players are able to find bugs in the first 2 hours that a dedicated
Q/A team isn't able to find in 2 weeks.

Betas is the best thing that ever happened to gamedevs.

Getting something like the Arma 3 Alpha Offer would be awesome.

Pretty much.

Things as complex as raid bosses in WoW (seriously, 's complicated) need a grand total of... 2 hours of open beta.

That's it.

They say "the boss will be available for testing between 6 and 8 PM PST, go go go", and VERY rarely bosses are released with bugs. The worst that happens is a few numbers are too high and the fight's really hard.

Beta would be great for OVK, in terms of QA costs.

Pre order rewards could do the trick too.

Indeed, a beta open to players would certainly help iron out potential issues the developers may initially miss. Although it would seem quite often that betas are more likely these days to be very exclusive to certain individuals, and it's not often that I have seen an open-beta, or alpha where many players are allowed to participate.

They should have an lotto thing, for players at 145 or higher and select <insert number here> to beta test it and what not.

That's a terrible idea. It could just be all PAYDAY players or people who pre-ordered PAYDAY 2.

No need to artificially lower the number of testers.
It's not like millions of people would sign up for Payday2 Beta.
I mean - i hope there are so many interested in Payday and Overkill gets
rewarded for their work, but realistically we're speaking about a few
thousands who know about Payday 2 and want to test the Beta.
