Why making private profiles?

Why is it possible to do it when you can just, write nothing. Besides, no one else can view it than you, so what's the point?

What if you want to write stuff but only have it visible to a few group of friends?

As far as i know, making your profile private makes it only available to you.

You can have it public, friend-only or completely private. You don't get to know if someone's profile is private or friend only though, I think.

And there are plenty of reasons for going private. Just not writing anything doesn't hide your inventory (Golden Wrench holders, for example, would not want people to see their stuff), and there are a few other things that someone might want hidden. Plus, it's possible that there is stuff they want people to see, just not right now (maybe they've not finished their profile).

Profile is kinda mandatory on Steam and not all of us care to share that information. I really don't think it's anyone else's business what games I own, how many hours I have on them, or when and what I last played, how many achievements do or don't have. I buy games to play SP games not socialize. I leave socializing to live face to face interaction with real humans beings. I don't understand this gens constant need to socialize and share everything. It's unhealthy.

I don't understand people who make their profiles accessible via the forum button, but then have them set to private.

Except for your 25,000 posts on the Steam forums?

You sound like my father, Mr Snoops-A-Lot. I loved him but damn if he wasn't nosy. I left 12 tightly sealed boxes with my parents when I went overseas for 2 years and damn if he didn't open every single one and rummage through them all. I could have killed him. Why do you and others feel such a powerful need to force others to share info they don't want to share. Privacy baby, it's a beautiful thing.
