How do I use Steam CMD Tool?

Some time ago I created a Day of Defeat: Source server using hldsupdatetool. Since Steam CMD tool came out I could no longer update my server. So I downloaded the tool, followed the instructions on the wiki:

login anonymous

force_install_dir ./dods/

app_update 232290

It looked like it was updating my app, so after it was done I went and opened my dod server, and it was still outdated.

Is it because I installed SteamCMD in a separate folder? Sorry about bothering you all but assistance would be greatly appreciated. If you could help me step by step that would be great too.

Use the validate option at the end:
app_update 232290 validate

This should make sure that you get the latest version.

What might also cause trouble is if you're still using hldsupdatetool on this machine as they are interfering with each other about the updatetimestamps. I have encountered this problem in the past though I'm not sure if this was on windows or linux.

I tried it and the server was still out of date. So do I have to delete my DoD server, uninstall hldsupdatetool? Sorry, but what exactly do I have to do?

Is DoDS the only gameserver you're running?
If so you can delete hldsupdatetool as it no longer works with DoDS. It's becoming more and more obsolete now as most of the source engine games are migrated to the new steam pipe content system within this month.

If it is no problem for you you might delete anything server related, clear the registry and start over again with a clean installation of the steamcmd tool.

login with anonymous rather than your account

and remember log out your account by exit in steam command

Steam> exit (that will correctly logout)
