Pinion servers suffering from low tick rate

I only recorded the IP of one of the Pinion servers I played on tonight, but both servers suffered from low tick rate and lag. The average tick rate was around 15 and fluctuated from 7-28 but rarely hitting 20. When a horde or panic event started, the tick rate dropped to as low as 7. The katana is a big red error message and sometimes medkits and other items float in the air, though they are just ghost items that cannot be picked up. All players on the server noticed these problems.

I understand that Pinion does have some custom campaigns on their servers and maybe valve does too. Some survival maps and campaigns can cause low tickrate performance though I can't comment on the current custom maps installed. Also custom maps can cause error messages for weapons and other things. Just a theory.

IP 216.246.49.50:25030

Indeed, some Pinion servers are set up by socialists, running a tick rate of ~20 for the common good of the people! They're located somewhere around or in vicinity of Central Europe. This results in terrible CI stuttering. This was consistent for those few servers, not the map. I blocked Pinion servers one by one and the performance was varied, but the 'best ping' servers were coincidentally 'worst tick rate'.

Damn, if you ask EUR1=USD1, then at least playing this should be worth it...

It's been getting pretty terrible lately. Get your act together Pinion. You're actually, genuinely, ruining my gaming experience.

Yeah, the error on the Katana and the floating kits / pills things have only been happening over the last few days.

I imagine it's something to do with this;

I don't think it's anyone of those campaigns, we have them on our servers and have for awhile with no problems. I would think it is something with pinion or valve.

Giving this a bump. I only suggested that it might be the custom campaigns because I've played a custom survival map or two and while playing the map, the tickrate dropped considerably. So I thought that if any of the custom campaigns presently installed had this issue, it might affect other games being run on the server if players were playing a custom map on that same box. Cause we all know each box runs more than one game at a time.

But the issue may have nothing to do with the custom maps and may be a bandwidth or hardware issue. I suggest anyone experiencing the katana error and low tickrate record the IP address of the server and post it here. I'll report back later if I encounter any servers with this problem tonight.

They seem to just neglect routine maintenance. Clearing the log files, keeping sourcemod up to date, the advertising model must not work, if they can't afford to keep anything running tip-top.

I would be embarrassed if I was in their position. More and more people are blocking Pinion servers entirely for their all-around poor service, or at least blocking their ads to spite them. Not that a lack of revenue is going to help increase server maintenance, but in the hopes of making hosting so unprofitable they leave L4D2 entirely.

Honestly, I think an empty hole in L4D2 hosting is better than a slew of unplayable and broken servers. Every Pinion server I was on last night had high degrees of unplayable jittering that had an extremely negative impact on the game. I've been waiting for Pinion to prove me wrong, and so far they've tripped over themselves to prove they can't handle this position of responsibility to the L4D2 community. Block their servers/ads and they'll be gone in a matter of months.

There's a pinion server that's appeared (I live in the UK) that jams up my l4d2 on 100% cpu for several seconds after it's connected and you're in game, and has some graphical glitches in game too. It's infuriating because not only does it make l4d2 stop responding for several seconds but everyone immediately quits so it's completely useless anyway.

Problem's happening again to the point where people are trying to use best available dedicated to avoid them. If they're going to be "official" they should at least meet the minimum requirements so CI don't lag like crazy and makes everybody leave :/

Just letting everyone know we are looking into these issues, I found two boxes on the East Coast that are doing something they shouldn't.
