You missed the part where it said the account linking was permanent and could nit be undone, when you linked accounts.

As said above you can't unlink accounts and for a good reason.

You can't simply unlink, but maybe, and I can't stress enough the word "maybe", you're able to change the link of your old banned forum account to another Steam account of yours, then link your forum account to your actual Steam account.

I never tried this, just heard as a possible workaround.

That's no longer a choice for new accounts.
Steam account linking is mandatory for new accounts now.

Can you access a banned account? When I was temp banned all I could access was a message that said I was banned until whatever the date was.

As has been indicated, it is not possible to unlink accounts once they have been linked in the first instance.

You can't unlink but I have seen BurtonJ mention that you can link it to a different steam account by going through the process again.

I'm trying to make a new forum account so I can change my username. This account is the last remnant of my early awful user name choices. I created a new account but the linking process tells me my steam account is already linked. So that's clearly not the case unless there's something wrong. OR unless you mean make a dummy Steam account, link THAT to an old forum account and that would free up your good steam account for linking. In that case, thats absurd.
