Question banned_user.cfg limits ?

I have over 180 steamids banned permanently but every now and again someone who is banned (steam id is in banned_user.cfg) can still connect to the server ? they are using same account that is banned .
So I was wondering is there a limit to how many steam ids scrds/banned.cfg can process or handle or can i separate the file into two ?
example server.cfg

Why don't you use sourcebans ?

Easy to setup, use and there is no limits to it afaik.

No idea really..

But I think you are not banning by IP just by user.

So you need to have a banned_ip.cfg alongside with a banned_user.cfg. You will also need to order the server to write the id and the ip so in your server.cfg there should be something like this:
Code:
exec banned_user.cfg
exec banned_ip.cfg
writeid
writeip
I'm quite sure this is fail proof, because you can be banning the user (I don't know if ID comes into play here or not) but not the ip, which means that after map reload, the ban will be gone.

Can you confirm that your banned_user.cfg only contains of steam id's starting with

STEAM_1:0 or STEAM_1:1

STEAM_0:0 or STEAM_0:1 are not used in L4D2 - these are CSS/TF2 steamID's and should you have banned such a steamID, the player is not banned from your server until you ban his L4D2 SteamID.

You are correct I dont ban by IP , IP bans are worthless imo most hubs have dynamic IPs and at worst people can spoof MAC to change IPs
My bans stay in banned_user.cfg forever , just think it struggles to load all of them
EDIT just asked a friend to help so looks like I will be using sourcebans from now on , thanks for all your help brother

LOL

If you have issues with limits or something else you can always resort to sourcebans.
Have fun.

Oh excuse me, I forgot I can be criticized for accidentally repeating what someone else has already said. That is because I have high standards compared to certain others, right?

Yeah I'm not really tied to your acceptance.

May I ask how you accumulate over 180 bans?

Well there are a lot of hackers around also suiciders , team killers etc , I remember once this guy joined solely to spoil everyone's game , only to be banned , then he joined again on a new account (same name) again tried trolling and was subsequently banned only to return once more and announce himself , I didn't give him the chance this time , so thats 3 bans for 1 guy right there , most are from smac logs though mainly aimbots, no spread and speed hacks , A lot of them are from a long time ago so this has took a few years to accumulate . fancy a game of versus ?

idk what you're doing but I have never needed more than a half an hour ban.

Well its not what i'm doing that matters , if people hack they get banned no second chances (ofc they can just buy it in the sale but what you gonna do) I have given people chances in the past and they just hack / troll /TK / suicide again and again .
If its worth a ban its worth a perma ban //imo

I have no trouble picturing a situation in which bans could reach triple digits if you were also banning for behaviour as well as hacks.

If I close my eyes very tightly, I have no trouble picturing a situation where Lucy Lu is rolling naked, back and forth, in sour cream while Tyra Banks smears herself in sweet chill and I throw corn chips at both of them.
