Half-Life 2 Video Commentary

Hullo, my name is Mark, though most people refer to me as "Hey you" or "Would you please shut it?" Some of you may have seen my Half-Life 2: Episode 1 Critique which I posted on Google Video way, way back in June 2006. This was nothing more than a side project for me, but to my immense surprise, fans of the game seemed to enjoy it quite a lot.

This in part is what prompted me to undertake the task of producing a similar video commentary of the original Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 is an enormously long game so you can imagine that this project was a little daunting. On top of that, Half-Life 2 has been out for a very long time now, and people will already be very familiar with the game, so it was hard for me to find aspects of the game to discuss which may be new to current/former players.

Nonetheless, I did manage to complete this project... five months later than I intended to finish it. Unlike the Episode 1 Critique, the Half-Life 2 Commentary follows the same chronological progression of the game, and I divided it up into sections roughly comparable to the game's own chapters.

If you have a freakishly enormous attention span like I do, or are simply a glutton for punishment, you can watch the commentary in its entirety on Google Video at:
~ Half-Life 2 Commentary
Warning, it is 1 hour, 54 minutes long. Oh yes, you read that correctly.

However, those of you with a go-go modern lifestyle can watch the individual chapters on Youtube:
~ Part 1: Introduction
~ Part 2: Police State
~ Part 3: Lab Work
~ Part 4: Underworld
~ Part 5: Flight
~ Part 6: Reunion
~ Part 7: Dark Night of the Soul
~ Part 8: On the Road Again I
~ Part 9: On the Road Again II
~ Part 10: Sandbox
~ Part 11: Hard Time I
~ Part 12: Hard Time II
~ Part 13: Uprising I
~ Part 14: Uprising II
~ Part 15: Faulty Towers I
~ Part 16: Faulty Towers II
I do hope you enjoy watching. Keep your powder dry.

~Mark

Its a great thing to see you did another one, Mark. I saw the Episode One commentary a while back a few summers ago and I really liked it.

I loved the humor in your videos. Can't wait to see what you think of episode two!

EDIT

Just watched the Ravenholm part. Quick question, Mark: Have you read the book The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks? If not, I'd recommend it to any zombie fan.

I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but moved to London when I was four years old. When I was nineteen I moved here to the United States (Seattle)... that was fourteen years ago, and I've been here ever since. When I go back to the UK people tell me I sound American, and here in America people tell me I sound Australian. Sometimes you cannot win.

You'll definitely find out. I heard of The Zombie Survival Guide in the past but it has been some time. Finally, something to use my three-year-old Barnes and Noble gift card upon.

This is hysterical.
'I know they're really called civil protection, but I still like to call them The Filth.'

Soon followed by inexplicable scene of the can cop being set alight.

Really impressive. I must say that I've totally enjoyed every second of the commentary. It's interesting, thought-of, funny, and most of all - intelligent. Brilliant work, mate

I've enjoyed this commentary as much as the Episode One critique.

And I love how you opened it up with everyone beating on you

Trust me, its well worth the read and the money.

And Episode Two seems to be the big topic now. Can't wait to see how you critique the story, especially now that this episode has much more story details in it than any other game in the Half-Life universe.

Was I possibly the one who got you to post your videos on youtube, or did you have it planned out all along? I recall messaging you on your youtube account a couple of weeks before you posted the half life 2 commentary.
