Half-Life 2: Episode 2 Commentary
I was in Sierra Leone seven months ago. Why, you wonder... well the opportunity presented itself and I just went on a whim. If you love dysentery, hepatitis A virus, kids with FN/FAL assault rifles and vicious baboons, this is the country in which you definitely need to take your holiday. Visiting a place like Sierra Leone puts a lot of things in perspective, and that includes video games. It's hard to believe, but no one I spoke to in that country had ever heard of the Half-Life series. Priorities I guess.
I don't consider my opinions of Half-Life to be particularly unique or interesting, and I am far from an "expert" regarding Half-Life or video games in general, yet to my complete surprise many of you fans of the series enjoy hearing me babble on to no end about these very games, so those few of you will no doubt be pleased to find I have created a similar commentary for Episode 2 as for Half-Life 2 and Episode 1. When I listen to myself in these recordings it makes me cringe, and I think "How can people stand this?" The commentary is one hour, ten minutes long... I know, that's absolutely mad, but I cut about 30 minutes out if you can believe it. So I have released it in two ways, on Youtube in twelve sections, and on Google Video in its entirety. Youtube: ~ 1.) Introduction ~ 2.) The Hunted I ~ 3.) The Hunted II ~ 4.) Cecil ~ 5.) Falling Freeman I ~ 6.) Falling Freeman II ~ 7.) The Passenger I ~ 8.) The Passenger II ~ 9.) Road Trip I ~ 10.) Road Trip II ~ 11.) The Forest through the Trees ~ 12.) Silence Google Video: ~ Half-Life 2: Episode 2 Commentary I make these commentaries for two reasons: 1.) I want Valve to send me a plush headcrab, or failing that, some Post-It notes. 2.) I want all of you, the fans of the series, to enjoy the games as much as I do. If you have any questions about what I've done, or any comments about anything you'd like to see from me in the future, please feel free to e-mail me. Scathing insults are welcome: mark@goosegoose.com If you want to see the Half-Life 2 Commentary, see this thread. For the Episode 1 Critique, look here. Cheerio everyone. Thanks, they're nice, in a weird way. I'm watching it right now. I'm not sure why you mentioned your stay in Sierra Leone, though.
![]() Edit:I was watching the first part... and wow. When you started saying about how you thought Ep1 was a step forward but Ep2 much more than simply the next step, I remembered how these were my thoughts exactly when I finished Episode Two... ![]() Last edited by Naurgul : 10-29-2007 at 05:42 AM. |

Although I didn't enjoy ep2 as much as the next guy, but I do love watching your videos. It did make me appreciate episode 2 more.

Just finished watching them. Bloody brilliant. I appreciate the game so much more now. You really are a natural critic.
It completely deserved the sticky. ![]() Last edited by mimaz98 : 10-29-2007 at 07:01 AM. |

I've really enjoyed your commentaries on the HL2 series. It's a unique undertaking.
I think the train tracks are perpendicular to and elevated from City 17 at the beginning for cinematic reasons. Being in the mountains makes the view of the destroyed city a vista and the tracks being perpendicular allows the portal storm to hit them full force, and gives the player a chance to witness the collapse in the best position. 'course it doesn't square with the ending of Episode 1, but as they mentioned in the dev commentary, the opening scenes of Ep 2 received a few revisions. |

Good indeed, but you really should record the video using the in-game feature because the video is a bit laggy...

Cool, always good to hear another's opinions. Especially when they are presented in an organised fashion.
I'll watch it later. Last edited by Dmax3901 : 10-29-2007 at 11:01 PM. |

Excellent work. I really enjoyed your commentary and review. It was definitely nice to hear someone eloquently express much of the same feeling I had about the games.
