The Audiosurf Sessions (20-minute DJ mixes)

Hi all,

I'm a closet DJ who recently got the bright idea to mix a series of 20-minute mini DJ sets specifically to play in Audiosurf. I call this The Audiosurf Sessions.

Are there any other DJs out there? If so, please contribute your 20-minute mixes and I'll happily host them on my website for everyone here to download!

Please enjoy, tell me how you like the mixes, and try to beat my scores. More mixes to come!

Here is a set I made for myself, it's chiptunes only, varying from happy hardcore and drum and bass to rave/hardcore techno, I hope someone enjoy it

You can download it here

Thanks for sharing, ajcf89. I love the music! Too bad it's just crossfaded and not beatmatched.

It's kinda hard effectively beatmatching different genres, especially when we're dealing with such a lo-fi sound that chiptunes have, I tried

Yep, 20 minutes is a real marathon indeed. Not everybody will like this DJ mix idea but I'm really glad you've enjoyed it enough to try it a few times. What keeps me interested is the amazing way Audiosurf presents a new colour, speed, and intensity for every new song I mix in, and even a different mood while a mix is in progress. As a DJ I love seeing how Audiosurf interprets mixes!

Thanks for playing, UncFester!

I've been playing lots of individual songs to see what works so I have some good ideas for what to include in my next mix. I hope the next one will really take advantage of AS' sensitivity. Lots of dramatic builds and punchy, impactful instruments.

Starting to see some high scores, including yours (which are higher than mine.. grr). It's very flattering to see so many people invest so much time each round!

You make it all worthwhile, Uncfester. Give me a few days and I'll mix another one using the songs I've tested that make AS go nuts.

I only played the first one, so I don't know if the others have the same problem, but...

..with the clean finish bonus being an insane 25%, you might want to make songs that clearly indicate "hey, the song is about to end, keep in mind that you need to finish clean".

The first song just suddenly ended, resulting in me having a single colored block left...

...and thus, a really low score.

(also, not really related to your song, I find it annoying that Ironmode doesn't give any bonus or anything. Oh well.)

the first one had like 4 blocks at the end w/o ironmode for me so that got cleared for clean finish.

Perhaps ironmode only has 1 stray block at the end though.

You do all realise that all of the tunes on these mixes are subject to RIAA copyrights and should not be shared this way?

Well...

iirc, ironmode also hade a bunch of blocks at the end, (me not finishing clean wasn't only related to the single colored block left, but it also had something to do with a certain gray block.. )

But unless the author mixed these songs on purpose so that the end would have a bunch of colored blocks, it was just luck.So the next time that he makes a mix that suddenly ends, you might not have a convinient stack of blocks in the last 3 seconds, and many more people might run into the "damn now I didn't finish clean" problem.

Why on earth your only contribution to this thread had to be that statement is beyond me. I guess everyone has to feel righteous at one time or another.
...and your "nick" is probably wholly deserved. Sharing tunes, however it's done, even as a "fun post" on a forum, is illegal. I'm amazed the mods have sat back and let it happen but hey, knock yourselves out.
