9/10 only 'cause a Q6600 would have been a 9.5/10 (10.0 is an Intel C2Q Q6700... or is the highest a Q6800 for quads?).

2.9 because I didn't bother going farther. I left the multiplier as it was and I just boosted the FSB.

To be honest, I didn't had much time. One weekend soon i'm going to sit down and carefully overclock my cpu.

budget gaming machine, $700

I'm building a new gaming machine to replace my P4 2.4 Ghz. I already have a monitor and OS (WinXP), so just need a box. My primary use is for work and to play CS:S I'll going to try to overclock the CPU and that's about it.

See any problems with this rig?

What it current consists of:

Rosewell ATX Mid Tower 450W - $50
Gigabyte 965P-S3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX mobo - $82
Sapphire Radeon X1950XT 256 MB - $200
C2D Conroe 1.86 Ghz - $166
GSkill 2GB 240 pin DDR 800 - $82
Western Digital 80GB Sata - $42
Sony DVD/CD - $30
Thermaltake 120mm CPU cooler - $45

Just built:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4Ghz Stock (Testing for stability before I OC)
Asus P5N32-e SLi Plus Motherboard
2X1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800Mhz RAM 4-4-4-12
E-VGA 8800GTS 640MB
Seagate Barracuda 320GB HDD 16MB Cache SATA2
OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU
Samsung 18X Dual Layer DVD Burner SATA
Thermaltake Soprano Black ATX Case with Window
Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard
Logitech G5 Gaming Laser Mouse
Logitech X-230 2.1 Speaker system
Samsung 205BW 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Windows Vista x64 Home Premium

With the exception of not being able to run my RAM in dual channel (most likely due to some drivers) I love my new computer!

Valve said they aren't interested in writing code that will utilize more than one core until multi cores are common. Are you building this rig for mainly Valve games?

I have an AMD 4000/Asus A8N SLI Premium and have no plans of changing anytime soon because of Valve's position on dual core code. They said gamers will see the benefit with multi (quad and up) cores, so they're sticking to single core for now. I think some games are coming out that use both cores. Most software is still written for single core--so unless you're downloading bit torrents and gaming, et cetera, at the same time; one core will sit there 99 percent unused with most programs. There are quite a few popular games writing code for dual core though--just not Valve. How long do you plan on having this rig? I'd spring some extra cash and get at least a 2.4 GHz C2D but that's JMO. Good luck with the rig

Well, its not that bad, better than half the computers I've dealt with in the past year or so. Its not gonna run crysis in a very pretty manner, but for you everyday gaming and general screwing around, it'll get the job done pretty well. Your hard drive could be bigger, and for newer games more ram may help, but otherwise you have a fine rig.

6/10

and just so you know, 5 means average, 1 means WTF STOP USING A PENTIUM 1, and 10 is like, OMFG, YOU DONT NEED A NEW GRAPHICS CARD EVERY 3 SECONDS! YOUR 8800 IS GOOD ENOUGH.

1: NO COMPUTER CAN DO THAT! LOOK AT HOW OBLIVIONS DEMOLISHING COMPUTERS TODAY! AND ITS 2 YEARS OLD!
2:Well, to even get close to that goal you have to get a new processor. Its not weak by any means, but a 6000+ would do much better against crysis.
if you wanna run high, another gig o ram is also gonna have to fly into your comp.
3: The ultra is a piece of ????. get the GTX and oc.
