If true thats awful ! Its a Steam game so it shoudnt need any copy protection besides Steam itself !

Yes, 4 seems the magic number. After that you need to call or email the publisher to get more activations. One of the mods in the Zuxxez forum can also reactivate your account for you.

maybe because developers / publishers failed to realize that such stuff only 'lower' sales instead increase

People actually still buy games that have limited numbers of activations?
I wonder how much money these limited activations cost the company in the end? If they aren't running an MMO, for every gimick they include in their game that forces players to contact them is money wasted in support costs. Will they ever learn? |

Well, it seems that's the way pc gaming is going, just take a look at Bioware Mass Effect. I believe all new games will eventually go this route.

Yes, this is completley ridiculous. Does anyone know why they do this? Because I honestly can't think of a reason why they only give you 4.

I thought this was supposed to be a huge plus to STEAM, was the fact that I could use this whenever and wherever, on whatever computer I wanted to. I thought STEAM was supposed to be the answer to all the DRM nonsense out there today. I mean maybe I'm just ranting on a little, but I thought STEAM was supposed to be the copy protection? This was a major selling point of the whole STEAM idea for me. No more hunting my CD keys, or DVD's. And when I upgrade my computer, which I do quite often, I wouldn't have to worry, just install STEAM, my game, log in, and play?

^ Tell that to the THIRD PARTY DEVELOPERS AND PUBLISHERS who choose not to use Steam's built in copy protection as the only copy protection in their Steam releases.

hmm, the reactivation story is on the www.2-worlds.com site, but not on steam. Kinda stupid i think. For Two Worlds, steam is only a distribution channel i suppose. No extra 'steam' features implemented (like many other games by the way...)

Funny and true. Stardock has no anti-piracy installed in Sins of a Solar Empire. None. And it's one of the top 5 selling PC games in the US right now, within the top 3 in UK vendors.
Very good example the rest of the industry should follow. If you don't alienate/treat your player-base like criminals, the more successful you'll likely be. If you take my money, and then limit the amount of times I may play, it's not ME who's the criminal, it's you. |
