I think some more blood and gore would be nice in DOD, like peoples heads and arms flying off and stuff? Maybe like a new class as an Engineer that can plant mines underground?
But what i would really like to see is Omaha Beach in the new DOD. Im a big fan of Operation Overlord

Im realy happy that dod:s got the update to the new engine primary. But as many have posted earlier there are some bugs and other anoyances that need´s to be fixed.
1. Proned after respawn... gets a real funny effect on the map harrington where you then can se under the ground. Other maps acts more like the normal prone besides that you can run proned. 2. Thompson needs an adjustment in hittingpower and also a wider cof. That alteration would bring back the old thompson that was great at close combat but suck bigtime over a longer distance. I would realy suggest you all to change your online names to [AT] at the end. = Anti Thompson 3. That strange thing when you are runned into that you moves a bit. Snipers have a big disadvantage of this when his own teamates gets to close. |

I bought a laptop for gaming (Oct 2006) just so that I could have hardware that would run DoD:S. I have to have a laptop for gaming, because I don't get to game at home. Now, I could drop $400-$500 for a new DESKtop that will run the updated version, but those don't travel conveniently on airplanes.
I lost a straight 20 fps off the top with the update, my client is no longer graphically 'smooth', and there really isn't anything I can do with the hardware that I have to get back to the experience I used to have with this game. I loved the game BEFORE there were achievements. This game is a test of player vs. player, not player vs. game (where achievements make more sense). If I had wanted achievements, I would have been playing a different game. The death cam/freeze cam adds nothing to the game play experience. I find it extremely disruptive and distracting. This should not be a server variable, it should be a client side variable like the film grain is. I'm surprised that no one suggested this during the Beta period. If it was suggested, I'm real surprised it wasn't implemented. Since I'm finally here complaining, while I did see DoD:S Beta on my games list, there was no direct and open communication to the community at large that at some point there was going to be a wholesale change of the game. I did not go out and buy the orange box because I did not want it. Thanks to Valve, now I have it whether I like it or not. Not only that, I received it without being warned that I was getting it. When DoD:S came out, I was a die-hard player of 1.6. I had to buy a new machine in order to make the switch. Why could this change not have happened like the change from 1.6 to Source? Release the new version as a completely new game, with new machine specs on the game box. Make more money, and not make people so angry. Give us our old DoD:S back. Personally, I wouldn't buy the new version. I know, I know, some people are going to point to the similarities between this post and people complaining about WinVista. The difference is, Vista wasn't automatically downloaded onto my machine without any communication to me how it would affect my experience. Oh, and I can still buy and use WinXP. |

fishrokk, I'm sorry that you experience a 20 fps drop. That really sucks. However, as for other things, like the deathcam, you said yourself that it is a server-side cvar. And I think it's usually disabled. If you go to a 'serious' server, you're not likely to run into it.
As for Valve repackaging this small update as a brand new game, that's ridiculous. I do wish they had managed to keep it as optimized as before the update (which is not to say it was optmized well.. but better than the current version apparently). |

Well, the more I play it, the less it sucks, but my client is still kinda shaky and jittery which was not the case prior to the update.
We are (my clan) slowly learning some of the tips and tricks with the cvars that make the experience more enjoyable. (I'll be turning off achievement and nemesis sounds before my next session.) I still don't get the whole idea of lerp, and it took me months to get the hang of choke and loss in the first place. If it was a major [physics and/or graphics] engine overhaul that affects the amount of processor power needed, substantial changes were made to weapon cone of fire (see all the other posts mentioning COF) and it came along with some significant cosmetic changes, I don't think that it was a small update. Maybe if they'd swung for the fences and gone for more updates (and more optimizing), they could have packaged it as a new game version...? Anyway, I'm not really in touch with Valve's business environment and strategy. I have read in many forums posts by DoD'ers that feel like we're Valve/Steam's forgotten community. Which is a shame, and I don't know that I really agreed with it before, but I know I'll pay a lot more attention to the Steam Beta program from now on! |

I agree, but sometimes people make stupid statements and miss points. I hope you guys really do read the forums and try to make improvements. I doubt this for some reason, but i can still hope.

Ok, I read it.
Can someone tell me what lerp means. And left peak. (same thing?) Never mind about left peak. I found this thread that addresses bugs. http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...d.php?t=701643 Last edited by Wurum: 01-20-2009 at 04:03 PM. |

Here's my opinion about the game:
To start, I've played dods for over 2 years, so I've played it well before the Palermo update, and the engine update and other effects were well deserved and needed. However, I have a lot of grievances, undoubtedly already stressed in other posts, yet I'd like to add as well. For one, hitboxes for assault/support are insane. Before, I could really get into the game in moving to different positions and actually LASTING for awhile. Nowadays I try and get into the game and some guy with a Thompson or Mp40 will simply run up and shoots me before I can even react with a Garand or a K98. The only way to truly combat against something like that is to do it back, totally taking away from the realism of the game. From that, I disagree with the saying of someone who said the game wasn't realistic; not ever. It actually was. You could use cover to an advantage, and weapons were well balanced enough to where a Garand or K98 was useful. Reducing Garand recoil didn't really help with anything...whatsoever. The environment was (and is) heavily immersive, so the added effects was a plus, but the hitboxes are absolutely terrible. The automatics kill the game. It's gotten to where you simply fire in a direction and eventually (and relatively soon) you WILL get a headshot. Irritating barely describes it. True it's a game, but it's a fun game and this really takes away from it. Secondly, the "dominating" and "revenge" and "flashback" deals are just plain dumb and cartoony. I used to resort to Dods from Tf2, and now Valve Devs are turning it into a world war 2 version of it. I truly appreciate how they tried to make it better and flashier, but that wasn't what Dods was about. Dods was about the grittiness of the game, not about "revenges" and "dominations". And being a sniper is terrible when you get someone and they know exactly where you are. For one, the majority of people that plays already KNOWS where the sniper is, or exactly where he/she would be, the map only has so many hideyholes. What I DO really, really like about the update was the option to disable downloading sounds and custom maps. THIS IS GREAT. I absolutely HATED downloading stupid sounds that admins would never use, or maps that I'd never play on, or would forget about, or would eventually just take up space. I'd love to see that option in Css, where you have the choice of not downloading stupid sound/maps that plague Css servers. Graphics update was good, a little harsh on MY system, for I don't have a huge system that can handle wondrous graphics and the like, but it was still good. Plus you added a new map that was actually good! If you had stuck to that, and not changed any core game effects, I would have loved it. Overall, I like that you're paying attention to the game, but what you did killed it, at least for me. I still play from time to time, but after about 10 minutes I get frustrated and just leave. I'm basically saying thanks, but no thanks. That's my piece.... Last edited by Crusader508: 04-30-2009 at 07:19 AM. |

When I first played the game I absolutly loved the game. The way they died and the details were very cool and I haven't noticed anything bad about the game. You guys say that there is a new update out? I haven't noticed anything bad about the game before the update and I haven't played Day of Defeat: Source for around 5 months so I just can't imagine how good the game is now if the new update is out

Hard not to go at each others throats when they ruined this great game (and i mean 1.3 to source) and yet there is no feedback, they dont even care there will be no changes. They are just milking as much money as they can from it. |
