Shouldn't Steam have an option that limits your download speed?
Just today I've been downloading Hitman: Blood Money from Steam. And my brother complained I was making the rest of the internetz slow. Which is understandable.
He said to limit the speed but then it struck me. Steam doesn't have a speed limiter. Do you think Steam should have a download speed limiter? I do. Discuss.

It does have a limiter...Under settings there's a tab called "downloads" in which you can select your internet speed.

Ahh, that's not a limiter.

Tell him that steam owns whatever he is playing with.
Then laugh, while running around the house naked. |

Yeah, I sit around all the time and say, "Man, I sure wish this would download slower!"
Then I go and kick the router. |

Hey I don't want it to download slower, my brother does, so I don't use all the bandwidth.
Anyway my brother has now just given up on the matter so it's fine ![]() But I still think Steam should have a download limiter for instances like this. uTorrent has one and that's good. |

You can use programs such as Netlimiter to set the maximum speed you wish an application or connection to have.
I'm not sure if there are any freeware alternatives, but there may be.

They don't anymore, unless you have gone over 250GB cap, which is a pretty hefty amount in its own right, I have Comcast and download games from steam at around 2.1MB/s, while still being able to browse the internet and play other games just fine, so I don't believe it can be blamed on Comcast.
