Relax guys, we'll be playing it in 2010. Not willing to bet my life on it, but I'm pretty confident.
If it takes any longer than that, then Valve seriously needs to expand their development team. Hopefully PAX will be the event to reveal it. If not, then at least I've got QuakeCon, GamesCom and BlizzCon to keep me busy with new stuff. Although not with anything related to Half-Life sadly. |

2010 is pretty sad. :\
I don't know if I can wait another year! =o I'll just have to march right up to Valve's doorstep, kick their door down with my feet and when Gabe comes up to the door... I will get down on my hands and knees and beg them... |

L4D2 is going to be great, I have no doubt...but what a disappointment compared to what we were looking for.
Oh, well. I'll buy l4d2 when it goes on sale and that should keep me occupied for a while...plus I just bought overlord II. |

i dont like how they skip around the point. they just point out the obvious without ACTUALLY giving any information out at all.

Why would Valve use DX10? Dx10's days are numbered, seeing how Windows 7 will introduce Dx11. Plus, the Source engine can be impressive enough in DX9. I mean look at L4D, shiny, updated and pretty stressful hardware wise.

HL2, and the source engine still runs fine on a basic laptop. anyone who goes out to buy a PC for DX10 is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, because its a waste of time and money, and vista is still rubbish, and takes far too much of your PC's resources to run even low end games. i could run ep 2 on my last system, all full, at 1280x1024, and dont think ep 3 will be much more demanding, as its in the same engine. what i do think is a joke is that they are now releasing dates for when tehy wil issue a release date. is it just me, or is that taking the p##s? "oh, well, when the end of the year comes, we will release... THE RELEASE DATE". then they just have to put another year or two on that release date, and then we may see another 3 hours of HL2. i LOVED ep2 (ep1 was rubbish), and thought that part of the point of such short chapters was to release them quicker, not release a full sequel to a MP game that has been out less than a year. could be me, but it seems everyone just takes this from valve, ust because they are valve. well, im not afraid to say; VALVE STINK. |

I disagree with you apart from the "release date of a release date" thing, yeah, that's pretty annoying... Also, yes, Vista is rubbish. But Episode One was fantastic and although I think I like Episode Two better that's not because there's anything wrong with Episode One. Yeah, the point of episodes was for quicker releases. If you listen to Episode One's commentary, you can tell that back then they had a vision of all three being the same sort of length and 'ambitiousness', but I think they just couldn't help themselves and felt restricted by that idea. They wanted Episode Two to be something bigger, and evidently they want Episode Three to be really big. The Half-Life 2 development was too much, so they wanted to approach it differently and do something new with the next thing. It didn't go to the initial plans but I doubt anything ever does with them. Of course, if we're not playing Episode Three by 2010 then we're almost getting to the point where we wonder if the wait is worth it, unless Episode Three is the size of Half-Life 2.

Episode 3 will be much more demanding, than Episode 2. Don't bash Vista if you don't use it! That comment, about not being able to run high end games on vista is dumb and you my good sir are clueless!

The only real problem Vista has, I think, is it's hunger for memory.
