Y, we almost sparked a debate on why Linux/Unix is sooooo much better than winblows.

Winblows, ha, that's a good one, haven't heard that one before.
I don't have near the experience with Linux to make any real assessment of it let alone compare it to Windows -- er, I mean, Winblows, haha.
For now I'm sticking to XP, but I'm kinda afraid I'll HAVE to move onto 7 in order to keep to date with certain things.
I dunno though, 7 is supposed to be really...really good.

I love the stability of XP and have it on my main comp to play games and edit in Hammer. And I have a Macbook Pro with Leopard and edit films in Final Cut and photos in Aperture because they work great. I have no need for Linux, but it's cool.

There, hands are being held.

users have confirmed some nice features on Windows 7. For one many people say that Steam starts twice as fast then on Vista. Which is a good thing. Increase in fps in games. Good thing! Some even like the sidebar more than, those custom docks people buy.... Object Dock I think it was? Anyways, Windows 7 will eliminate XP completely! I saw an ad on the net, saying buy Vista now and upgrade to 7 for free. Thats a good thing too!
Back on topic!

21 months since Episode 2 was released
16 months before that Episode 1 was released.

I do not see Ep 3 making it out this year currently.

So I'm thinking mid 2010, which would put it at 30 months. :/

2.5 years for a episode is really crazy when L4D2 the sequel comes out in less than a year.

Seeing how L4D2 has no story or plot, it's normal to follow up so quickly. Plus Valve does it for the money. Let's not forget that Episode 3 will end the current story line, so time is needed to develop the story enough so it can satisfy gamers and not to reveal too much at the same time. Think about it people. Valve is under a lot of pressure right now! Go and play L4D or TF2 and forget about Episode 3, till mid 2010.

But I caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan't!!!!!
I'm replaying the series for...oh, I dunno...the 5th time now, haha, through Synergy with some friends. But we want moooooooooore!!! We're all avid HL2 fans and especially with the way they ended ep2 that just makes the wait all the worse.

I haven't played any Half-Life game for months now. I've mostly been interested in Fallout 3. I completed the Orange Box on Xbox 360 about 4/5 months ago, but that was it.

I'll certainly play through them all when I know the date Episode Three will be released. But until then, I've played them enough (about 6 times each).

But Left 4 Dead 2 has story! Far more story then Left 4 Dead 1 has.

Despite that, I don't think plot/story has anything to do with prolonged development times. They affect certain issues and design techniques but not to any substantial degree, I think.

Whenever I feel the tug of hl2 calling my name I just say to myself: "The longer we wait the better it will be." Which I truly believe.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that, when it's released, the wait will have been well worth it!

You really think so? REALLY? I mean ... You think Episode 3 will NOT be open ended?

Oh I wish it were true, but I think its just a dream. But I am still dreaming.

of course it'll be open ended but not so much as to leave the current HL2 story arc open, just enough to leave us tantalized enough to wait another decade for Half-Life 3
