2. I would think they would be able to work something out... 3. EA has really screwed with the community lately, accusing anyone who protests their DRM of piracy, things like that, they owe it to the community as an "I'm sorry" gesture to try to get this done, even if it means paying a little more for retail cd key support on steam... 4. finally.. EA has literally lost a crap ton of business and caused rampant piracy of their games because of their stance to DRM, I know that probably this would be a major boon to their sales because people would be willing to buy their stuff in stores and activate it on steam, rather than protest it all together. The only games i have with activation limits right now are clear sky and mass effect, and I've bought over 15 games in the last year for PC not including Christmas presents. Only 1 of those was an EA game, Mass Effect, and that was ONLY because I was willing to give them a chance. Clear Sky I got retail 3 days before it was released officially, so no one knew about the TAGE for the North American version at the time. It is my personal belief that EA has a long way to go to make amends with the community, and allowing CD Key activation on steam with no additional DRM except steam, would be a very good START for what they could do. It would still take a public apology to the gaming community by their CEO on top of that to truly make amends, at least with me, but it would be a very good START. The DRM is what drove SPORE to be the most pirated game of 08, and I have a feeling that if they do the combined effort of making good games, and allowing retail activation on steam instead of this crappy SECUROM stuff, I have a feeling they may not be boycotted as much, and piracy of their games won't be so high. It would be a good business move for them even if it does cost them a bit extra. Last edited by th3flyboy : 12-19-2008 at 02:57 PM. |

EA has a wonderful policy of screwing with the consumer, and I would not put it past them to pull something like that on this. Honestly, i dont trust them at all..

until they give the option to put a retail key on steam, I won't buy their stuff even if it doesn't have DRM on steam because honestly, their CEO has said so much crap about DRM protesters all being pirates lately, I feel that their CEO needs to give US an apology, and the way he can start is by letting us break free of the SECROM chains without having to buy it again...

I applaud this news, if indeed the game has no 3rd party DRM as stated. I will probably replace my box copy with a Steam copy as well, to support Steam and support this decision... to show EA that Steam is worthwhile and no other DRM is needed.

WHAT?
Did EA get a new head or something? I didn't think they would ever smarten up. Using steam AND no DRM??(except steam, but that benefits consumers instead of hurts them ) Dream come true |
