Exclamation CS isn't smooth

Hi,
Im playing counter-strike for a long time.
I've played recently on my friends pc and something isn't right.
On his pc the game runs perfectly smooth, shooting and jumping is so easy, everything is easy to do, I can do almost everything.

But on my pc the game isn't so easy, I have constant 100fps in 5-6 smoke grenades it never drops in any action so it's not a performance issue. But something isn't right, my movement, my shooting its not the same. Controling the recoil is hard, my shots are not registered as hits

My PC
XP pro sp3
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Gigabyte GA-K8NF9v2 nvidia nforce4
Kingston dual 2x512MB ddr400
PCI-E x16 Galaxy GF7600GS with zalman cooling

Maybe it's your rates?

rate 20000
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100
ex_interp 0

it's not the rates/ingame settings because I play on the same settings on my and his PC

could there be a hardware issue? something isn't compatible with hl engine?

I seriously doubt it.. there was a huge thread about hardware effecting recoil/etc.. people posting registry 'fixes', which were nothing but placebos. I told them exactly how they could show me their 'dodgey' recoil in action.. and suddenly the thread went quiet. It was just a learn to play issue for them.

If your rates are fine, it sounds like a driver problem.

Lag is in two forms. PC lag, which is from older hard-ware and Network lag, which is going to be your internet connection. So if you have a good ping in most servers, its time to take a look at hard-ware. First thing is to update drivers, then find the culprit hard-ware device that might be causing the lag. Best to start with the RAM or video card.

Good luck.

I think it's a display issue, because when I'm on a server with somebody, and he shoots with usp on a wall, I see a straight line, but he is seeing something like on the second part of the clip, when I shoot I se the second clip recoil, but when he looks at this he is seeing a straight line :|

but why on my friends pc I see a straight line when I shoot?

Its been so long since I've played CS, but check these commands :

Code:
cl_dynamicrosshair 0 , ex_interp .01, cl_crosshairsize small
After that, I think there was a file called "custom.hpk" that you can delete that should fix recoil issues. Remember to backup the file just in-case, as you should do whenever you play around with game files.

Another thing you could do is defragment the cache files and verify local content.

Here are the how-to's for the paragraph above:

Defragmenting: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...1860-OEMI-8577

Verifying: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...2037-QEUH-3335

Both links tell you what they do, and there is no negative outcome of running either of them. Meaning, you won't lose any data and nothing will be screwed up, just fixed (hopefully).

Thats actually pretty interesting. My recoil is actually more like the 2nd vid, where as on my old PC it was like the 1st one.

I thought it was just me being crap or my mind playing tricks.

I would also like a fix if anyone knows.

It would be nice to know if you tried any of my fixes. Valve's support and care for CS is rather minimal, the game did come out almost 10 years ago.

defragmenting, verifying, deleting, it's not fixing it
