I gave that older version of "ATIOGLxx.dll" a whirl and noticed a MARKED framerate improvement in ALL of the GoldSource games that I play (CS/CS:CZ/CS:CZ-DS/DOD), as well as a more consistent and stable framerate ![]() For testing, I enabled developer mode (C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\USER_NAME\THE_GAME\HL.ex e -dev), set "fps_max = 1000", and "cl_showfps 1". I then spawned, and noted the framerate after spawn... with, and without the hud: CS/CS:CZ/CS:CZ-DS: "hud_draw 0" DoD: "hud_draw 0;cl_hud_health 0;cl_hud_reinforcements 0;cl_hud_ammo 0;cl_hud_objtimer 0 ;cl_hud_objectives 0" Framerate seemed to be about 40-60 FPS higher, and considerably more stable and consistent. But... a BIG problem though: The gamma correction (or rather, color correction, "Color -> Full Screen 3D -> Gamma/Brightness/Contrast" in the Catalyst Control Center) that I have set using my installed ATI Radeon 9600 Pro/Catalyst drivers (Catalyst Display Driver Version 10.2, the last and final version of the drivers for that card and Windows XP) doesn't seem to work ![]() I have an aging monitor, and things are really dark on it when using the GoldSource games' OpenGL renderer(s), hence I bump up the gamma correction in the Catalyst Control Center. FWIW, the versions of the two "ATIOGLxx.dll" driver files: The "ATIOGLxx.dll" download that Rzehooj linked above - v6.14.10.3508 My current v10.2 Catalyst display driver's "ATIOGLxx.dll" - v6.14.10.8545 Anyhow, does anyone know of a hack/crack/hex/registry/edit/method to get the gamma to function when using this older OpenGL driver... short of installing the entire Windows package of older drivers (which I do NOT want to do)? Rzehoof, I just came here to post a similar thing before read! I tested the game in Direct3D and it is smooth and had very low response time, so the real problem is Opengl! D3D has some issues with fps dropping (but is way more smooth and fast anyway), random crashes and isn`t allowed to use with EasyAntiCheat. What I`ve done is search my system32 folder and copy atio6axx.dll (the equivalent atioglxx opengl driver for windows 7 64bits) and paste it in GLDRV. I also made a copy renamed that to `3dfgxl.dll` and edited the txt changing the final line to '... OpenGL driver' (but I thing that one doesn`t change anything). Now the game is REALLY smooth and fast! Hl.exe also execute any opengl driver you want by putting it in counter-strike folder renamed for opengl32.dll. If I put a atioglxx from my archive it display a pixel format alert and with atio6axx.dll it doesn't change anything in the first sign. By the way, asap I will test your solution, cause it really make sense and I read a lot of topics of people getting old opengl drivers for games like quake2.
Edit: It's really works! The opengl I'm using in both gldrv and Counter-strike is atio6axx from system32. Only 64 bits system have that file. See my ESEA status and how I jumped from 8 to 17 RWS and 112 adr. I'm now number #2 in ESEA Brazil, only after the ex-MIBR and ESWC 2006 champion fnx. http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=sta...&sort_dir=desc Last edited by rl1: 07-04-2012 at 07:09 PM. |

I did everything the same u did except I have nvidia and my file is nvoglv32.dll. Didn't notice any significant changes.
Now about adding opengl driver by putting in counter strike folder and renaming opengl32.dll. I get this error u mentioned "pixel format. What can I do about it ? |

Try that one, it's the default for Ati under Windows 7. You could also look to fix for in Quake-2 and other opengl games given your card and OS to find the real dll or another solution. Note: The original name of that file was atio6axx.dll and not atioglxx. |

RL1, can you explain with details what you have done, and what's to do with that ATI 20mb file?
Thank you! |

If you are using an old ATI card, alternative Omega drivers are the way to go. I still use them on my old computer that I use to play CS 1.6 on ATI radeon 9550. Its so much better than official drivers. Of course dont use them with new cards...

I will explain.
Some people related that old opengl games are crashing since the old geforce 6x00 and Ati x800 series. Some of them became unplayable and some just have some bugs. That somehow affect Counter-Strike very subtle. The solution for almost 100% of cases is putting the correct OpenGL dll in the same folder of the game 'exe' (hl.exe for cs 1.6). Many videos and texts over the internet suggests that the correct drive for my Ati is atioglxx.dll in my system32 folder, but I don't have that file there. So I tried looking at properties (right click in the file than properties) of each file that starts with 'atio' in the name and I saw "ATI Opengl driver" in the 'atio6axx.dll'. I put that one in the game folder and I also put a two copies in the folder GLDRV (one named 'atio6axx.dll' and the other overrind the original '3DFXGL.dll'. The game now is much smoother and my reg is perfect (if you have esea you could look at my demos). I also noted that when I got problem with my internet or wireless router (cl_flush_entity), the game reacts very different, besides having a lot of little freezes it almost never freeze and when the connection in really bad the games freezes for like 5 seconds and then the player positions are corrected in a way that I never saw before. For those who have ATI with windows 32 bits: I don't know why your atioglxx.dll didn't work. You could try the file for 64 bits that I hosted and hope that it works, search for a different version of 'atioglxx.dll' on foruns (search for quake 2 opengl bug). For nvidia users: Guys, that problem also occurs on nvidia, because I used to play with nvidia cards. You could try using the same file for ati 64 bits that I hosted (and hope that it works for you), try 'nvoglnt.dll' in your system32 folder, search forums for 'nvidia quake2 opengl bug' or extract a new one from here (http://developer.nvidia.com/opengl-driver). I NEVER tested, but I really believe that the same file I'm using will work for both ATI 32bits and Nvidia users, since Opengl is only an API. Last edited by rl1: 07-05-2012 at 04:23 PM. |

Ok now it's clear. you put 2 copies of opengl file from system32 to gldrv folder ( one at same name, other one renamed to 3dfxgl.dll).And 3rd copy to Counter strike folder.
In earlier post you mentioned adding "opengl driver" line. So this should be added to the file which has been renamed to 3dfxgl.dll, is that correct? When I open it only hieroglyphs are written inside, so does it make any sense? |
