go to your dedicated server folder (where the hlds.exe is) and make a text file with name steam_appid open it and write 10 and then close it

HELP ME PLZZZZZZ i am so desperate!!!!!!
I having this issue with Hidden source, Gary's Mod and HL2 Deathmatch.
k after 3 days of intensive research i finally came accross this forum that promises me RESULTS!!. k i have the same "STEAM VALIDATION REJECTED" error but in trying to fix it by putting the steam_appid.txt in Dedicated Server folder with value of 10, i found out that that folder is empty instead there is a dedicated server.gcf in my steamapps folder. So WAT SHUD I DOOO??? how do i get steam read the folder instead of GCF (on extracting the contents of the GCF and applying steam_appid.txt). Btw i even tried puttin in the steam_appid.txt alone in the empty folder (Dedicated server) and still failed. Orignally i had this error "Disconected: This account does not own this game. Log in to the correct account." I got no clue y its saying that!! i even deleted clientregistry.blob and still didn't work. You can view this topic for complete info for all the stuff i tried and solutions that didn't work for me http://forum.hidden-source.com/showthread.php?t=10293 If u have solutions for either of these problems plz post a reply ASAP... |

Valve released an update to the hlds to fix this very issue. Try this to force downloading the updated version and to repair any broken hlds installtion:
0. Quit Steam. 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam 3. Create a new folder with today's date in ISO format e.g. 20090430 4. Move the FILES only(not directories/folders) in C:\Program Files\Steam to: C:\Program Files\Steam\20090430 leaving only "Steam.exe". 5. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps 6. Rename "dedicated server.gcf" to "0dedicated server.gcf" 7. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNT 8. Rename "dedicated server" to "0dedicated server" 9. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam 10. Double click to run "Steam.exe". 11. Type in your username and/or password then click "Login". 12. If the Steam browser window isn't open then right click the Steam icon in your system tray and then click "Games". 13. Click on the "Tools" tab. 14. Right click on "Dedicated Server" and then click "Install game...". 15. Click on "Download and Install". 16. Click "Next >". 17. Click "Next >". 18. Click "Finish". 19. Wait until the Status is "100% - Ready". 20. Right click "Dedicated Server" and click "Launch game...". |

(Super Bump)
I was trying to host a TeamFortress 2 Dedicated Server and I had this problem. I tried the steam_appid.txt solution, and it worked, except I put 440 in instead of 10. 10 is Counter Strike (http://store.steampowered.com/app/10) EDIT2: CS:S is now app/240 and 440 is TeamFortress 2 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/440) That should fix this problem, although Im REALLY late to the party... ![]() EDIT: Due to many bumps, I have decided to add more to my post to hopefully deter those from bumping, and also help those with this problem. The hlds.exe is in the folder: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<account name>\source 2007 dedicated server If its not there, you may have to run it from Steam>Tools in the Library Tab. This will make Steam install it if its not already there... As I said before for this to work, you need to change the steam_appid.txt to 440 if it is a TF2 Dedicated server. If that does not work, then you can manually make the txt file and that should fix it. For a GoldSource game (CS or HL1) hlds.exe would be in steamapps/<account name>/dedicated server If you need any more help, feel free to PM me for it...

sorry for the extra bump.
Where is the dedicated server folder located, and where is hlds.exe? When I search for it I get the TFC version, not the TF2 version, and I can't find the server folder Program Files > Steam > steamapps > teamfireyleader > source 2007 dedicated server ?
