Patch = Fallout 3 has stopped working

I click the icon and the launcher pops up, as soon as i click Play: "Fallout 3 has stopped working" (Vista 32)

It has worked fine until the Steam auto-update, and now wont play at all.

I have no mods or custom files, is there a fix for this? System restore to before the update and start it offline every time?

Posting this on the Steam forum because I purchased the game through Steam and was forced to update by Steam.

As a lot of people have said in the forums, try this
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I give credit to Codemorseman for that link above

You need to install Games for Windows - Live 2.0 to mke the game work. Then it's fine! It's a problem that has nothing to do with steam or valve just useless patching.

THIS is the one time where having bought the dvd would be nice. Bummer we can't choose to reinstall without the patch.

Well, is the patch not being distributed via GFWL? So we can install the game, but just not log into GFWL once its installed? Would that not mean that the patch would not be downloaded?

Steam is not installing the patches for FO3, GFWL is.

Steam is not installing the patches for FO3, GFWL is.
the steam updater ran upon steams starting up. im pretty dang sure i never pressed the gfwl update, because i was making a point NOT to use gfwl. And yes, i knew i could turn off steams auto updates and thought i had (to my dismay...). live and learn i guess! auto updates are goin off for all my working games! lol

Is there any update on this?

I get the same problem. I load a game and within 30 seconds the game crashes and minimises to desktop, saying “Fallout3 has stopped working”.

I downloaded the game/update via Steam and have also downloaded the latest version of Games for Windows Live. I have Vista & yet the problem still persists.

I have the exactr same problem, I just wish that thw steam forum was active enough to be practical. If the guys who have helped can atleast say "I don't know" then that would be better than what is happening, I keep feeling like I've been abandoned
