Steam Client Beta Available

There's a new Steam Beta client available. To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings, and on the Account tab will be a drop down. Select Steam Client Candidate, and then allow Steam to restart itself. Here are the specific changes:

- Fixed a bug preventing in-game status for 3rd party games
- Fixed a bug affecting Dawn of War II beta participants in certain languages
- Fixed a bug in the game overlay affecting some Dawn of War II beta participants who have the game overlay disabled
- Added display of auto-detected download region (in Settings->Downloads)

01/26/09

- Fixed a condition that would prevent steam from automatically applying game updates until game launch
- Fixed a case where installscripts could fail and prevent games from launching
- Fix crash when right-clicking a text edit control with an input locale that is new with Vista
- Added ability to specify content download region (in settings->downloads)
- Fixed running a non-Steam shortcut not changing user status to in-game
- Fixed some third-party games still not showing in-game status correctly (Fallout 3, Hearts of Iron 2, more…)

01/27/09

- Fixed typos in download region names
- Updated German localization
- Fixed some potential string truncation in non-english locales
- Fixed another condition which could cause games not to update until they're launched

01/28/09

- Fixed offline mode (regression in last beta update)
- Repaired layout of controls in Event announcement popup window
- Updated processor detection for "System Information" window and hardware survey

01/29/09

- Fix crash when viewing system info dialog
- Additional network API warnings for Steamworks partners
- Detect Windows 7 correctly in the hardware survey/system info dialog

01/30/09

- Really detect Windows 7 and Windows 2008 in the hardware survey/system info dialog
- Fixed a crash on startup affecting some users
- Fixed some non-english strings
- Fixed a bug which could cause games to attempt to update while user is in game
- Fixed crash or hang launching HL2 64bit

02/03/09

- Added prompt to restart steam if the user selects a new download region

actually mine doesn't, I'm in Romania but it displays "hungary/czech", and we have a content server, the problem is that we (RDS&RCS costumers) have "metropolitan" speed to that content server.

I'm not so sure about my region. I'm from Brazil, but it shows "US - Miami".

Mine says Netherlands and I am in Norway.

Edit: I renamed my ClientRegistry.blob file and I now get Sweden as my download region…still not Norway though.

Finally control backspace has been added to chat!

But there seems to be a problem, I was told that the next edition of Steam would be called "The Scared Edition"....I demand justice here!

If it isn't your country, delete clientregistry.blob and restart Steam until it gets your country.
