Valve will not port CS:S to the orange box engine
Because it will
- Slow down people - Give poorer hit registration - Poorer frames per second - Achievements which the cs:s community will think is pointless and stupid FPS and hit rego are the life blood of the CS:S experience. If you mess with that by porting to the orange box engine there will be a massive fallout. I can forsee the cs:s community absolutely exploding in rage if the game is ported. You have been warned. i think the biggest thing would be no 100 tick servers. would probably kill whats left of the competitive community of source off

The thing I hate most is how my friends name is enforced in-game.
I play for different teams in CS, DOD, TF2 etc and I'm sick of my name being forced! I read about something in the 1.6 beta (that went final) that allowed you to 'untick' it...I hope they add this option to the rest? I also agree about the rego, but what if the OB netcode does improve rego properly? Then we have an even better game. |

2. They will fix that with the new updated engine 3. Again, get new hardware. 4. Actually a lot of people would like the achievements. It would give players a new reason to play the game more often. It actually won't be the Orange Box engine, it will be a newer version of the Left 4 Dead engine with new goodies. I want the new update to include a better engine. I built a gaming PC for the best of the best engines. If they can give us a newer and greater engine, I got my PC all for it. |

Since when did nobody mean many?
EDIT: I heard of a magic game called Counter-Strike 1.6 it runs MUCH faster than CS:S, yet people complain for CS:S lagging because they didn't look at the system requirements. Last edited by Vonje: 01-23-2009 at 12:52 AM. |

you mean 'f10' for that mockery disconnect -.-
Why shouldn't valve upgrade the source engine? ffs CS:S current engine is old to ♥♥♥♥. People should ♥♥♥♥in save up and buy a new rig if they're gonna complain. ffs stop living in the past. CS:S is dying because there are certain types of people who play games for the eye candy rather than game play. All these newer games such as tf2 and L4d are takin a majority of css players away because of this! Valve would be fools not to upgrade. |

- Give poorer hit registration - Actually the newer engines have better reg. - Poorer frames per second - Erm.. Multi-core support? Still on your old Pentium 3? Time to upgrade anyway. - Achievements which the cs:s community will think is pointless and stupid - Give the people who have gotten' a bit bored of CSS something to do, will not effect competitive community in any way. |

I gotta agree about the fps point others have made Kiff. Multi-core support is good for fps. I don't know about hit reg in tf2 as I haven't got it though.
As for tickrate, I find that 100tick servers don't always reg better for me than 67/75 etc - so I wouldn't worry about that. Achievements are like stats... for losers and scrubs. So I agree there :P |

Personally I'd love to see it ported over to the orange box engine.
The achievements would be fun to do (Especially for those who are already getting bored of CSS) and would encourage people to play competitively which would make the game more fun. As for the poor frames per second, that's not the engines problem, it's your pc. My computer is 6 years old and get like 15 fps on it's current engine but any modern day pc should be able to run games on the OBE perfectly fine. Plus I think I read somewhere that the orange box engine was getting some kind of treatment that would use L4D's modded engine because it gives insanely smooth FPS. I don't know anything about this hitrate registration thing though so I can't really defend myself on this. I can only state why I'd think it would be good. Plus the graphics would look better. Motion blur and other visual features the engine has would look nice in CSS. |
