Exclamation Troubleshooting FAQ

Where can I go for Technical Support? There is contact information that will get you in touch with technical support specialists at THQ in your game manual, and here is a link to their website: http://support.thq.com/thq/consumer/search.asp

Note: For any Game-specific issues not related to Steam, you may find help on the Dawn of War II forums: http://community.dawnofwar2.com/index.php

** First Things First **

1) Ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements to run DoW2
* Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista SP1
* P4 3.2 GHz (single core) or any Dual Core processor
* 1 GB RAM (XP), 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
* A 128MB Video Card (Shader Model 3) - Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT / ATI X1600, or equivalent
* 5.5 GB of Hard Drive space
2) Ensure you are running a supported operating system. Note that the Windows 7 beta is not officially supported
3) Your drivers may be out of date. You should have the latest drivers for your video card, sound card, motherboard chipset and network card.
4) Users with dual-core AMD X2 CPUs must install the dual-core optimizer.

** For Crashes on Game Start (XLive not installing properly) **
There is a necessary Windows hotfix that should fix this issue. Download the hotfix HERE and then reinstall the Games for Windows Live Redist 2.0 HERE.

** Regarding Intel Integrated Graphics **
There are some users who are using Intel Integrated Graphics chipsets that meet the minimum requirements of 128mb VRAM and Shader Model 3.0 support. While those two requirements are met, the chipset still can not be considered equivalent of at least an Nvidia 6600GT. Thus, Intel Integrated Graphics are officially below our minimum specifications.

However, we have been working with Intel and users can expect an improved DoW2 experience with upcoming Intel drivers. Be warned that you will be getting ~10fps under the best of conditions, so you're best off not playing ranked matches else you'll be frequently kicked for lagging the game.

We apologize for any ambiguity in our minimum specifications.

** Users with AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core CPUs **

A number of users are reporting problems with incredibly slow performance in the front end (long load times after the movies and load screen, unresponsive UI.)


There is a timing bug in AMD 64 X2 dual core processor that drastically reduces performance in Dawn of War II. If you are having problems on an AMD 64 X2 or Opteron dual core, please make sure you have the dual core optimizer installed.

** How to Report a Technical Issue **
1) Check the Master Technical Issue list to see if the issue has already been reported and confirmed by Relic
2) Do a forum search to see if any other users have already reported the issue
3) Post a new thread with a clear subject header explaining the problem
Bad Subject: "Game crashes lots"
Good Subject: "Game hardlocks when I use the Guardian's Embolden ability during a 1v1 ranked match" (not a real issue)
4) Ensure that you write thorough reproduction steps in the post to help the developers reproduce the issue. If we can't reproduce the issue it will be very difficult to fix
5) Include relevant information such as your system specs, your operating system and your language.
5) Once the issue has been reported it will be added to the Master Technical Issue list and the original thread will be closed to reduce clutter

** How to Report a Network-Related Issue **
1) If you are working behind a router attempt to connect directly to your modem to determine whether the router is blocking the connection
2) Ensure you have no software firewalls running or have appropriate exceptions in place to allow traffic
3) When reporting the issue it is critical that you include information on your router and modem model as well as any software that you have installed that could interfere with your computer's networking capabilities (such as antivirus software)

** What Ports do I Need to Have Open? **
See the following Microsoft Support article:
TCP 80
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
UDP 53
TCP 53

** How do I Open Ports? **
This will vary greatly depending on your network hardware. People in the forums may be able to help you, or you can check your manufacturer's website for more information.

** I Can't Connect to Games for Windows LIVE! **
The disconnection issue followed by a "Sign-in change has occurred" error is currently under investigation. For other connection issues, start with this post to begin troubleshooting before you post your problem:

** How To Set Steam Launch Options **
1) Open Steam My Games
2) Right-click on the game you wish to add launch options to
3) Click "Launch Options"
4) Enter the launch options separated by spaces

** Common Launch Options **
1) -window - Display game in windowed mode
2) -forceactive - Game will run even when it does not have window focus, such as alt-tabbing away from the game
3) -freemouse - Mouse is not restricted to the game window when running windowed
4) -nosound - Disables sound
5) -nomovies - Disables intro movies
6) -logs - Enables error logging - This is critical when submitting bugsplat reports

** How to Change Configuration Settings Outside of the Game **

1) Open Windows Explorer
2) Navigate to My Documents -> My Games -> Dawn of War 2 Demo -> Settings
3) Open "configuration.lua" in Notepad or another text editor
4) Changes such as disabling VSync can be made here as well as more complex configuration options not available in game

** Users running Windows Vista 32-bit **
Some users running Dawn of War II on Windows Vista 32-bit edition may run into problems when running certain graphics settings. If you are encountering crashes to desktop during gameplay please try changing your graphical settings to Predefined: Medium.
** Trouble redeeming retailer exclusive codes **
The following steps have resolved many of these issues.

Run this hotfix:

Make sure you have the Games for Windows Live Marketplace installed.
If you do not:
Start-->programs--> Microsoft Games for windows - LIVE
Then log in with the same account as you would ingame.

** "STEAM has found a problem with your local game file" message after attempting a DVD install **
Right click the "Dawn of War II" entry in Steam under "My Games"
Choose "Delete Local Content"
Shut down Steam completely. Ensure that it is not still running minimized
Install game from DVD
When installation from DVD completes, uncheck the box to run "application when finished"
Click Finish
Exit installer and run game.
Steam will download patches and game should work then.
