Galactrix Vista Crashing
The new Puzzle Quest Galactrix is a great game, but it crashes and closes every hour or so. I've tried disabling the steam overlay but that didn't seem to help. I'm running Windows Vista Business 64-bit, GeForce 8800 GTS, single monitor, running fullscreen. Anyone else have this problem or have a work-around?

Crashing for me too. Vista 64 - GTX 260 - Dual monitor.
I checked the Infinite Interactive forums and it seems many others are having the same problem. |

Same here, Vista Ultimate 64, Sapphire 4850, AMD Athlon X2 64 5600+, 4GB DDR2 800. Running AVG Free antivirus and Spybot S&D.
There's a thread at Infinite Interactive, so we aren't alone on this. Actually, I'm noticing the only people who've listed their processors have all been running AMD- is anyone getting this with an Intel chip? |

This happens on both my Vista 64-bit desktop and Windows 7 64-bit Laptop. As I posted in the Infinite Interactive thread, here's the software that's common between my 2 PCs:
Steam Windows Live Sync ESET Nod32 Antivirus Locate32 (desktop search) O&O Defrag 11 VMWare Workstation 6.5 |

No crashes as of yet for me, running Windows 7 64-bit on my MacBook Pro via Bootcamp. Will try on my desktop with Vista 64 bit later, I dual boot XP and Vista and have recently begun using XP again (for no particular reason other than I hadn't used it in over 3 months). My friend asked me if I was having any crashes in Vista, so I've been trying ot get it to crash in Windows 7 (since I was busy with something in XP).
Any particular moments that cause crashes or is it completely random? |

Crashes without fail about every 20 mins. Last crash was during a boss fight. Needless to say, game is unplayable until fixed.

Same thing here. Windows Vista 32. Game crashes after half an hour, everytime.
Hope they fix it, because it is a great game. ![]() edit : Crashes appear to be random. Idle or not. I am running AVG Free 8 in the background. Last edited by lucidique: 03-01-2009 at 09:13 AM. Reason: Adding more infos. |

Same here. Vista 32, AMD 64x2, GF8500, 4GB. AVG8. Crashes every time between 20-30 minute. I can just launch it and leave it idle, and it will crash anyway. It's as if the game has a crash timer...

Found a temporary fix!
After reading in the official puzzlequest dev forums the popular opinion is the the crash is due to a memory leak and ONLY with Vista machines with AMD processors. So I had the task manager running in my second monitor while playing galactrix. and I could see the usage slowly climb during play until the inevitable crash 20 - 30 min into it. So I came up wit this: Download CleanMem, start up galactrix, alt tab out and run the program. Played 2 hours straight using this method. (although i had to run it again after the first hour, due to memory usage getting too high) Hope this helps. |
