I was wondering if it were possible to make a plugin for Windows Live Messenger that detected the status of Steam, as in:
In-Game or online etc. Something similar as the 'I'm listening to' feature they have. I suspect it can only be done using MSN Plus Plugins. I think it would be nice to have the personal message change for your Steam status. Just to add that when an Xbox 360 user goes on Windows Live Messenger it automatically say what they are playing and their gamertag. I would do it myself but I don't know how to extract the information from Steam. Thanks. |

Best thing I could find.
http://24.203.200.97:15000/ NowPlayingGames for MSN Messenger Show to others what games you are currently playing. Last edited by L.o.D.: 07-27-2009 at 09:23 AM. Reason: fixed typo |

Yep I found it through this thread some time ago. I liked it but wanted to improve it. So I contacted the developer (Dunge here actually) and he allowed me to use his code as long as I gave him credit.
So here goes : IMinGame http://sourceforge.net/projects/imingame/ It is based on Dunge's NowPlayingGames, with a bunch of modifications. It updates your MSN/Live Messenger status with the name of the game you are playing, thus providing "steam-like" in-game status for msn users. |

Well for those applications that load directx or opengl dlls while not being games, there is now a user defined blacklist. Although why your email client would do that is beyond me

Ha ! Missed that one. On the very first launch there are no list files, they are created when the program exits. I'll fix it soon. In the meantime, just exit and launch again ^^.
Update : fixed in v0.2.1 (available as soon as sourceforge allows) Last edited by NeryK: 08-02-2009 at 05:03 PM. Reason: Fixed |

It most definitely should not. To detect games launch and termination, it is using a technique similar to the one used in Mumble (overlay enabled voice chat software), except less intrusive (it does not need to draw on top of the game window).

Now if only it would show the status correctly in Facebook. LOL
I have the Windows Live Messenger app for FB & it will show my WLM status on my profile, but it shows it as Now playing In-game. Doesn't show game name. |

Let me get this straight : it works fine for you except your status message and game name is not forwarded from live messenger to this facebook application ?
I wasn't even aware there was a live messenger facebook app, I might check it out in the future. |

As far as I can tell yes. I wouldn't call the FB thing a bug though as it is more than likely just the way the FB app handles WLM statuses.

Not so much a bug than a possible future feature then
![]() Anyways thanks for your feedback, stay tuned for updates (though it won't be anything drastic in the near future, more like a one-click blacklist button or something). I welcome suggestions too. |
