Steam account name change
I know this isn't possible (atleast...yet), but I'd be more than willing to pay a fee of like 10$ to change my steam account name. Seeing as how my name is an old and long hotmail account I used back in 2003.
![]() Seriously, I am more than willing to make such a payment. I just don't want to be stuck buying all my games back which would ammount to about a 100$. |

Why would you need to buy them back?

It was my understanding that in order to get a new account name I would have to make a new account and buy back the games listed under my current account.
Is that right? |

But is it really worth the hassle just to change a name that only you would ever see?
It's not worth it. |

I know. This is why I don't want to buy all my games again and ponder about how it would be nice to have a account name change service. Hence, me posting under the Suggestions/Ideas board.
I mean isn't this another way Steam could profit? There should be some heads turning over at Steam.

If you want to buy your games again all for the sake of having a new account name, then go for it. Do whatever floats your boat.

This really seems to be the only solution, uh? I guess I'll tough it out.
Maybe it'll show up someday, though I doubt it. If it does I know I'll be happy about it. |

I'd like to change my account name as well. When I first signed up it was because of a game that I bought in the local store that required me to setup a steam account so I named the account some off the wall name that was related to the game in a way that I know, unfortunately, if I ever had to install steam on my alternate computers, I'd never actually remember what the name is (I know I should write it down somewhere but...). So I'd love to be able to actually change my username on my steam account.
I wait until the day they actually offer that. I'm sure if they took the proper precautions (maybe make people actually call in to verify it) they should be able to accomplish it. |

heres an idea: client falls for phisher's scam by giving his info, phisher changes password then pays 10$ to change the name of a 200+$ account, phisher gets himself a nice new account and client gets ♥♥♥♥♥. it would be a lot harder for valve to verify the original owner. i know you could do that with the steam id but i have no idea what my steam id is.

that's just the profile name, not the one they sign into steam with.
that said, other people see and search for the profile name don't they? so what's the point? |

I have to agree that I would like to see more abilities to change your profile, not only your profilename but like I asked before, also the ability to reset your profile. But it seems no one from Valve actually reads this since I still haven't got any reply.

I don't really get the point of changing the Steam account name. You don't have to tell it anyone. People can contact you by your Steam community name, server plugins do remember your SteamID. You're the only one who ever gets in touch with the Steam account name. So how does it matter?

Why not ask something for free before saying you (so others) are willing to pay for a useless feature?
I'd like it too, as I'm in the same situation, but it's not really important imo |
