Steam Achievement Manager

Hi all,

I wanted to reset all my Stats on Portal, L4D, DoD & TF2,

I've managed to do it in L4D with the console command "achievement_reset_all"

For the other games, I've seen a program called Steam Achievement Manager, it seems alright, but I'm not going to touch it if there's any risk of me getting VAC banned, just not worth the risk..

Has anyone got any experience with it / can vouch for its safety?

Many thanks.

I see that people need first hand experience to believe.
Just don't run here crying that you got VACced or something bad happened to your account.

It doesn't matter what the intentions of the program are, if it interferes with the game's code it is grounds for a VAC ban.

No, you can't get VAC banned for this.
I used SAM not for unlock achievements but for relock them. I like to redo my achievements sometimes.
There were many bugs in the 4.0 version, and the 5.0 doesn't work for me now, just a bug I think.

Taking into account the game ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE RUNNING while you use it, and hence VAC WON'T BE RUNNING I daresay you're safe. If I've misinterpreted something on the programs homepage, and the game does need to be running, then just load up a local non vac secured server.

Valve can detect it and ban you or strip privileged such as unlockables. When it comes to VAC, err on the side of caution.

Well, two things.
1. I don't disagree with you that valve may be able to detect it and ban you if they so chose, and could prove it. That said, I doubt they log all achievement gain times, and I doubt that they care much if you do unlock the achievements on games that it doesn't affect anything. Moreover, I highly doubt they would care if you locked your achievements again to re-earn them(except maybe tf2, since it might give you the unlocks again).
2. As far as VAC goes, I'm not saying you shouldn't be cautious(nor am I saying you implied that I said that), but rather that if a game that uses VAC isn't running, and you're not ON a VAC SECURED server with it, then VAC isn't running, and can't do anything(Eg. If you were at the main menu in a game that can use VAC, VAC still wouldn't be running AFAIK[I might be wrong about this part, so I agree on the caution], nor in a vac unsecured server, but it would be in a vac secured server).

Also, I think this is a neat tool for certain things for testing.
Basically, achievements like in l4d, resetting the one where you crown the witch to check if you're doing it right.

^^ I have to 100% agree. Using any exe to modify anything Steam is a big nasty risk.

I wonder how is anyone supposed to get banned without even joining a server. Is it magic?
