try this workaround

apparently the only way around this issue is to create a separate steam account for every game you buy. its an inconvenience but at least you would be able to transfer your games freely from computer to computer, other people (just give them the account password), etc. to minimize the inconvenience you can use a password manager like keepass (http://keepass.info/)

Yeah, I pretty much agree with all of you.

I would love to at least be able to change my steam login name. Technically your account should be tied to your userID not your username. Might not be the case for steams database.

Grave Dig FTW!!! Lol. Yeah, sadly this feature isn't available, as far as I know, but if it did, people would use this to avoid bans, if you catch my drift. Even though those whole keys could be frozen, but I don't think they'll go into that effort, plus the profits they make. It's a high doubt of us getting this luxury.

That wouldn't happen because all of our Accounts are files that are in a large folder, in other words, our login calls upon that file, then verifies the password with the contents of that file, that's what goes in the database, the Steam ID is just a way of quick verification, and fast communication with servers for bans, etc. Just clarifying your shtoof.

Is it too much to ask to be able to change my friggin' user name? I think it's a bit lame that just because I'm an early adopter of STEAM I had to use my (VERY OLD, INACTIVE, LONG) e-mail address as my user name...

What STEAM management does is treat its users like this is a FREE service despite the fact that we PAY for the games we acquire through STEAM.

We therefore expect some more rights, you hear us, STEAM management? *shakes fist*
Totally agree. Steam is evil, money grubbing bastards. I won't buy another game through them.

It's ok... there is only so much of this kind of BS people can take. Most of these things are in place for the sake of DRM (or atleast that would be their public image. Agreed they are trying to get more cash from us.) But frankly (touchy subject coming) This is partly why alot of people are turning to piracy, they are only fuling people's unlawful actions them selfs via being unfair.
(not to say I have turned to it myself I am open-minded to the debte, but still will not go to that extent-> feeling cheated or not.)

We are not being given the same freedoms as we did with a hard disc with built in DRM. However we are expected to pay full price?

I understand the account bans for cheating and such... but just as an alternitive I think an incrementing time based ban would be more effective and more fair to product owners but instead of tieing it to an account tie it to a CD-key.

Hell I'd even be fine with 1$ gives you a ticket to unvalidate your CD-key so it may be sent.

Since video games are becoming more and more the norm as a part of daily lives of people, in the near future we need to think of fair freedoms for the way we distribute our media

I had a friend that had his account hacked and promptly banned. He lost access to all his games that he legitimately BOUGHT and should by all rights be his to do with as he pleases just as if he had the discs. Steam sucks.

It's not steam. It's the true owners of that software, which is not you nor I.
Steam just gave the publishers a way to actually enforce that rule. We the consumer have never owned software, just the media they come on.

i believe the serial that was registered on the account gets banned; so really your just transfering the VAC Banned serial over.

This seriously needs to be done already as i need some games that need transfer.........IF you can trade games, what is stopping them from making it so you can transfer games? Mind you, you can undo these changes after like lets say 30 days or something so if someone's account was hijacked, the action can be undone.
It would save people accounts, save steam from having millions of more accounts, it can benefit alot of people here and steam.

Once a game is registered on one account it can't be transferred to another.

If you think that sucks, try using Direct2Drive's awesome service. Their DRM has DRM. They limit your game activations on everything and you have to fight them tooth and nail to get extra game activations.

No way it's going to happen because everyone will just trade games instead of buying them.

You can't transfer games between accounts unless you contact support here https://support.steampowered.com/newticket.php. It's more then likely that they won't let you.

I register a new user and email for every game I have to activate via Steam.

Example:
username.gamename, username.gamename@gmail.com

This way you can let your friends play the games you don't and even sell them when you are done.
