If you follow the instructions you wont delete your games, seems you have nothing to lose right now. Search the term you think fits your problem in here https://support.steampowered.com/ if you havent tried.

btw what pc specs and router/modem ? you never mentioned this in any of your threads

Try this please
Quote:
Write down your Steam Account name and password - you will need them to log back into Steam once you have reinstalled
Logout of Steam if you are able to do so
Exit Steam
Move SteamApps out of the Steam folder. This is the folder that holds your games so you want to keep it!
If you are having problems with a specific game, delete it's folder from SteamApps/<account> - Uninstall via Add/Remove programs, if you can
Restart if prompted
Delete Steam folder if it still exists
Hit windows key + r ( run at the start menu ) and type regedit
Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve (or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve on 64-bit Windows)
Restart
Download and install a fresh copy of the Steam installer from http://www.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.msi
Run the installer
Exit Steam before you first login
Move your SteamApps folder back
Run Steam.

Thumbs down A Steaming Pile

Vista 64- XP 64
AMD QAUD 2.61 ghz
4GB RAM
2TB HDD
ATI RADEON 4870 X2 (2GB)

Alloz... I was having the same problem with Steam after the update 'Steam 732897' that was released on November 25 2009.

When I'd try to start up a game from the game icon... Steam would just crash. It seems that during the update my games went AWOL and STEAM would crash because the game it was trying to start was no longer installed properly because of the update.

After un-installing a few times & cleaning my registry. I tried to re-install Modern Warfare 2 from the disc and walla.. Steam started straight up. Which allowed me to see in the 'my games' that non of the games were installed anymore.

Because I am new to steam I didn't know how to back them up.
I've lost all of my saves. So I reset my games up. Backed them up and now I am good to go until the next update .. :0/

Official response please: Steam Update renders Steam useless.

This recently happened to my friend AFTER a Steam update. He has followed the directions from a few posts, and still after waiting 2 hrs for Steam to do its update, it still is doing the same "not responding". Can we please have an OFFICIAL response from Steam to let us know why this is happening, and if they have an OFFICIAL fix for this? It starts the update, and then goes to steam not responding, then it goes again, and then it goes to stop responding.-- and no it is not his net connection dropping out.
