At least we know that it probably was creative driver related. Petty that Alchemy does not fully restore it...

But there's one more combination to try yet: Alchemy + converted game.
(I think you only have to convert, because alchemy already 'knows' about it now...)
I converted it and ran it again. I now have sound and music. Some of the SFX sound quiet compared to others, but I'll mess around with volume levels and see if that fixes it. Thanks for your help

Okay! that's great.

So it was caused by X-fi + ALchemy driver in the sense that the latter was not picking up on the steam game for some reason.

On the quiet sounds: I don't know if it's an option to disable/uninstall ALchemy separate from the main drivers, but maybe (I don't have a X-fi, so no guarantees ) that would give you better results on this particular game. So if you don't need it for other older titles, you could try removing it.

Hey, I ran the C configure option (yes I have 1.1 ) and when I launched the game (through steam) on the opening loading screen it crashes and an error box opens saying:

"Exception in EngineInit: X_SharedDB: Weapons "empty" and "empty" had same ID"

Then the start up gray box with graphics settings, etc. pops back up.

P.S. I also ran both levels of Debug yet everything was still green.

I'm having the same problem here. With the patch, in-game sounds work fine, menu sounds work fine... but the cut-scenes and comic strip scenes no sound.

FWIW I have the soundblaster X-FI Titanium Pro with the latest drivers. I've also used the patched software along with Alchemy, same thing as mentioned in my previous paragraph. I also tried unpatching and run just the alchemy profile. Same thing. In-game and menu sounds are fine, cutscenes and comic strip scenes = no sound.

EDIT: I found the problem... when patching you have to wait for the batch file to actually patch everything. I thought the thing was done after the first one "x_data.ras" there's actually 3 other things that needs to be patched. The batch is done when it says "Phase complelte" or something along those lines. So there ya have it, that's my little Homer Simpson moment of the day. So... everything is working fine!

Okay, thanks for the kudos everyone...

Karma Cloud: It's been reported to happen sometimes, but I have not yet managed to reproduced it here. I'm not sure how it's caused, maybe it's got nothing to do with the patch and it's just the display driver? The green display of the patch indicating it's doing what it should, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. One thing is for sure, that error should not happen.

please state your vgacard and driver version used, perhaps we can find the cause and so help others with the same issue.

the system should be perfectly capable, but maybe you have to update the vga driver? I just checked mine and it was v8.17.11.9562 in the windows hw manager and 195.62 in the nvidia control panel.

just go to nvidia.com to get the latest for your card, I guess.
