I'll pm you a link to pre-converted files, that is the easiest way. It is probably an indication that the system's path variable is changed from default. Posted some more info about that a few pages back. If you like to dig you can try to fix it that way too.

I ran the patch today, and it worked perfectly. Thanks for all your efforts Darkje! Returning to a thread you made 3 years ago to help people out is pretty awesome.

This doesn't seem to work? I tried this post:

because that bit missing is the cause of the problem, should be there, is there in a default config.

edit: image of adding system32 to path procedure

edit2: I did try some tricks to intercept this error, and failed because I could not set system variables from the commandprompt, but you gave me an idea I could test if choice is found, if it errors add the path in front of it by means of an otherwise empty string... mmm I'll have to work this out and test...

But it doesn't seem to do anything when I try to load the sox.exe, RASMaker.exe or SHORTCUT.EXE. I'm running W7 x64 with the latest patches/updates. My game path is G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Max Payne

Any help would be great, thanks!

You should only run maxbatch, the other stuff is some helper apps.

They are DOS commands and load from the commandline. Just clicking them will briefly popup a dos window and close it right away when the command fails for lack of specified parameters.

Maxbatch will call these commands in the proper way and they are kind of helper apps for it. Sox is a sound exchange toolkit, rasmaker is zip like (un)packager, well and the shortcut does just that...

If maxbatch does not work for you, I could send preconverted files.

I tried to move the folder to C:/. Then I tried to rename the folder removing all the spaces. Nothing...

Ok, I see there is an issue, please make a screenshot at debug level 1, maybe it will show the problem. Probably something is not detected as it should.

edit:
Ok, I see it was already at level 1, sorry I did not spot that right away.

The problem seems to be the game not being detected as 'unconverted' so I have to ask, are you sure it's not already converted? If I run it here on a fresh install it would look like this: http://imgur.com/MCqa8

What is the size in bytes of your language file and is it the original english language file or a russian one renamed to english?

First of all, thank you for the quick reply!

I'm pretty sure I never used this patch before. I will try to reinstall the game later to be completely sure...

The game's version itself is russian but x_data_rus.ras and x_russian.ras are replaced with original english ones.

x_english.ras // size: 393 MB (412658843 bytes); size on disc: 393 MB (412659712 bytes)

yes I think the problem is the x_english.ras does not match what the batch expects it to be and so it determines it's not original size and so it must be converted. you can try a quick fix by temporarily naming it anything else like: x_eng.ras and after the conversion rename it to it's full name.

edit: that way it will be interpreted as an unknown language file, and it will skip the size check.
