ACE Team's response to the piracy

I heard about this on the RPS Electronic Wireless Show and looked it up.

I think it's a great way of dealing with it.

Funny, quite a few people posted on the official forums saying that they bought the game after reading that message.

We don't see it here as this topic is a no-no on SUF; at least confessions like that.

I saw this image copy/pasted in the comments of the release, on a famous warez board...

And yes it helps, I think it's a good way to deal with piracy and not putting a knife / silly activation DRMs under their throat.

So if they like the game, they will tend more to buy it.

Nice job, ACE.

That's a good message, I hope alot of people who want to pirate Zeno Clash see it.

I don't condone illegal game torrenting with big-budget titles either, but especially with games like this that were made by small teams who just want to get their feet in the door... that's not cool. Just purchase it and support the developers who need every copy to be accounted for. It's plain selfish and rotten to do it any other way. I wish more people could hold themselves to a simple honor code and pay for what they play, especially when its for indie games.

Did you use the new "Steam Anti-Piracy" thingie? The Steam copy protection has been broken for years and I don't think much have been done about it apart from this new feature, most games on Steam are cracked instantly since there are generic tools for it already. But still, so are most games. :/

Also, pirates don't get to use the high score list, right? That's some good extra value for being an honest customer.

While all piracy is awful, pirating this particular game is the lowest of low.....

As game developers I don't think anyone wants their game uploaded to torrent sites and cracked... but piracy is something that is a reality of this whole industry. We don't seek to stop it (it can't be stopped anyways), but instead to appeal to the conscience of the people who do download it. I think that is the best we can do.

I tend to downlaod to try and most of the time I'm to disappointed to but eh game later. Mix that with the fact I'm usually low on cash and you get the picture. With buying ZC you made me spend 6 days on €4 :P SO be proud of your achievement.

I purchased GRID a long while ago... The game was "OK", seemed to me it couldn't decide if it wanted be an arcade racer or a simulation... enjoyable, sure... but one of those games I would have waited to see in the bargain bin before I picked up... I bought the game though, near release day and for full price.

Reason: No copy protection. Code Masters didn't even try, there was NOTHING. Not even a CD check. To this day it is one of the very few games I can start up and know I wont be annoyed with. No message telling me I forgot to put a CD in, no 5 minute request to a server somewhere on the other side of the country to verify my key... It just works.

Make of that what you will. Either way, I applaud your stance on piracy ACE. Your not punishing all of us (TAGES anyone?) because a few are being asshats.

The only people that DRM is hurting are the customers who buy the games.

Pirates dont give a . If anything, they welcome the challenge!
