Pubstars vs Competitive Players: Steam Forums Edition

Alright, we did this at Gamefaqs just now with a good deal of success (everyone had fun, everyone learned from their mistakes, etc.) and now it's time for the Steam Forums edition.

OK, here is how it works. 6 competitive players (with CEVO class limits) versus 9 pubstars playing as a highlander-style team (1 of each class allowed). No crits, no damage spread, no sandman and the maps are both competitive and public friendly (which could be Badlands, Badwater, and a Gravelpit tiebreaker, though the maps are subject to change).

I'm personally intending this to be a learning experience for both me (I've never really played Highlander or actually tried competitive play) and anyone else who thinks they're good and wants to try out semi-competitive play. For instance, after the one on Gamefaqs finished, we had a few people interested in competitive play, and a few more wanting to do a rematch. Signups finished, match is probably going to be 6/8 at 6:00 PM (GMT -8, so 9:00 EST).

Here are the demo links for the random Gamefaqs pub players versus the Gamefaqs competitive players:

P.S.: In the demos, the pub team lost both Granary and Badlands, but won Badwater. And please, steam forums, PLEASE don't make this into a flame war or something like it.

Competitive player here. I want in on this. It sounds like a good old fashion Comp Stomp in an RTS; only the comp in this case are 9 random pub noobs XD

Might be interested, if you can't get anyone else. I've been wanting to try some Competitive TF2.

(Like you won't be able to fill this in an hour or two... )

But if you have an empty spot I'll be happy to fill in.

I really suck and I'm not a pubstar, and I'll eventually I'll ragequit because I SERIOUSLY suck, chances are my schedule is SO full that I won't even show up.

Worst case scenario, if you can't find ANYONE else, count me in for spy. I've been playing Spy for 4 hours so far, and it's my highest played class.

And if not, please, for the sake of your team, don't let me on it. Chances are I can't make it. I can only play nights (sometimes, 9:30 Pacific, and some random daytime hours)

I really ing wish SPUF has signatures right about now, because this would be mine XD

Sorry, sorry. I just can't play a game without putting it down. You've probably had the game for like a month, but for me, that means I just installed it XD

Haha sgtdeviant, relax, while I'm asking for pubstars (as to make the game interesting and fun, and the demos interesting as well), you can feel free to spectate on the Source TV (just get there early, mine filled up 30 minutes before the match even started).

I might do this if there isn't another match for GameFAQs.

I'll be the pubstar scout. Oh, and this would be better if we did this next week, due to my bad internet this weekend.

VERY GOOD. Also, when will the match start? I'd prefer 10:00 Central time.

Why force the 9 pub players to go highlander? Assuming the teams were equal skill, I'd almost pick the team of 6 with class of choice as having the advantage over 9 people going highlander (almost.. but numbers help in the end).

Depending on the map, you sort of have to imagine that the engie and spy will not be particularly useful. And the heavy will be fodder unless the medic heals him full time (which will hurt the rest of the team). And again, depending on map and skill, the sniper might be ineffective (or very effective, depends).

Maybe I'm wrong on this?

This is why people who play this game casually hate competitive players.

I know it's a joke, and it was a really bad one.

Watch the demos that I provided. While the competitive players stomped the pub players on Granary and Badlands, the pub players admitted they didn't play on those maps much and weren't very coordinated. However, when they got to Badwater, the pub players played on that map so much that they knew each individual role and made very organized pushes.

It wasn't so much as a roll on Badlands and Granary as well, the pub players managed to take mid a few times, and push back the competitive players. And anyways, all of the pub players said that it was really fun getting rolled by pros.
