Crashes on Startup
I am running Vista 64 with a Radeon 4850.
I ran the game as an administrator the first time to get it to install DirectX updates. Upon trying to create a full screen window, the game crashes. "MISE.exe has stopped working." Can't do much else - the game just crashes before loading. Is this a bug? Are there some special command line values that I can play around with to get it to work? I get no error - it just quits to the desktop after the LucasArts splash (after language selection the first time).
I'm running Windows 7 RC in Boot Camp on a new 15" Macbook Pro. EDIT: Event Viewer says this: Quote:

I have yet to purchase the game, but was certainly planning on it. Not as eager now that it doesn't work too great on Vista 64.
If anyone fixes it or simply doesn't have problems with it, I'd love to know about it so I don't feel silly buying it. |

Problem solved
I tried to launch the game directly by going to
steam\steamapps\common\the secret of monkey island special edition and clicking mise.exe. That didn't work, but I got an error messages "X3Daudio1_6.dll missing". A quick search in google turned out that this file belongs to directx. I tried to launch the directx update contained in the directory with the same name and at the end of the install I got a error. Looking at the logs files (c:\windows\directx.log and c:\windows\DXError.log it turned out one file was corrupt. So the problems seems to come from a corrupt directx update. I went to www.microsoft.com searched "directx" and downloaded the webupdate. The webupdate downloaded a small 5 mg file. After that update, the problem is finally solved. I hope this may help someone with the same problem. Oh by the way, i'm running vista 64, and now everything seems fine. |

In the MISE folder is directx as well, I started it and it actually updated some files as well, I'm just waiting for my download to finish so I can try it out.

Manually running directx update fixed it
I tried Cerel's advice with manually running the directx setup that came with the game, and now the game launches correctly. Seems that the original directx setup didn't complete successfully, even though there wasn't an error.
Just go to steam\steamapps\common\the secret of monkey island special edition\directx\DXSETUP.EXE |
