If that error isn't coming after a crash, and you just can't connect period; it means someone else is using your cdkey.

So either you told a friend your cdkey, or you're using a pirated copy.

not so. Simple wait or restart router should fix this in case of legimate copy. =)

A year ago you posted the same problem.

So, my question is, did you ever get it to work then? And like the mod asked, did you try that procedure generously posted by Zamav quoting Arsenio? Verify local cache files?

Have you tried this:

Third Party Games

The CD Key may be incorrectly stored in Windows Registry. To fix this, please verify your GCF cache files:
1. Load Steam
2. From the My Games tab, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
4. Steam will verify the game cache files (GCF's) - this process may take several minutes.
5. Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.

How about this

Is it Possible that you bought the game through steam and someone else downloaded a cracked version and is using the key code your mean to have?

Hi

I know this is an old thread but i hope I can still help.

I found out what was the cause for this problem on my pc. Before buying the game on steam i had some version installed on that PC. I removed the game completely before installing the new one. Apparently the old key was saved somewhere in the registry and was automatically moved to the game that I bought from steam. Luckily i have another pc on which i was able to install the game normally and it was working fine. So i wrote down the key and used it on the other PC and now everything works fine. Otherwise the solution would probably also be to format you PC and make a new install or remove the old key from the registry if that is also the case for you.

as a way to do this even easier, open regedit, search for the reg key "codkey", delete the key, restart steam and then go through the process described in the posts above me (verify game cache integrity)
