Red Faction 75% off!
Good news everyone!
Red Faction is on sale again! I'm going to try to give a good and precise description of each game: Red Faction 1 and 2 are both in many ways similar to Half Life, plus the great destruction engine. Some say that Red Faction 2 has less destruction then the original, but i'd say that here it's more of a way to find secrets / alternative ways to approach a level. Games aren't made like this anymore, so it's always nice to see some retro variety. Guerrilla is basically GTA on Mars with the ability to destroy pretty much everything man made. The online is pretty good, taking advantage of the destruction engine and giving you some quality action, singleplayer is great as well, although a little less focused because of it's sandbox style of gameplay. I can't say much about Armageddon because I didn't play it yet, but as I understand now you fight aliens, and there are quite a few interesting weapons with which you can now see how buildings interact with each other in the same engine but, on a smaller landscape... much akin to the first Red Faction game - underground. Apparently it's also got online coop instead of competitive which is a nice change. The series as a whole is a nice way to see what potential this industry has with destruction, what can be achieved with it and actually how refreshing it is to see something we always wished to destroy. Now when the series is discontinued, I think it will always get cheap every once in a while. This is a great stress reliever... Tell all of your friends about Red Faction and be sure not to miss out on this hot deal! |

Not so fast, hoss. There are complaints pegged all over the internet regarding the fact that many people have had problems getting the first two RF games to run properly, if at all, on Vista/7 systems. I'm one of those people, in fact -- I never could get the Steam version of RF1 to run on my 64-bit Vista computer, despite the paltry hints and tips that were provided by other users.

You'll need to install PureFaction for RF1, and launch it outside Steam.

Take a quick look at the multitude of OS troubleshooting posts in these forums. How many do we see anymore that are specifically related to Vista compatibility problems? With the exception of older games, it's literally a non-issue these days. |
