Saved games went missing today.

I was playing a run through of the original game this week and my saved games aren't showing up in the list today. Something to do with the steam update maybe? I tried logging out and back in again, but to no avail. The files are still there, the game just isn't seeing them.

By "original game" I mean Half Life 2, not the expansions. Not the original Half-Life.

Have you been playing in 64-bit mode? If so, you might be having the same problem as me. My game now refuses to start in 64-bit mode.

Same thing happenened to me today. "There are currently no save games to display" is shown when I try to load game from main menu.

All the saves are still in the save game directory.

I've been playing with the 64-bit version all along, so the save files shouldn't be corrupted or incompatible.

I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Well, at least I can restart from the last chapter. Still annoying as hell and highly unacceptable.

Me too. Last night they were there. Today, they are gone. I can also start a new game at the previously completed level.

Was there a Steam client update today? I'm betting that Valve broke something.

So I start a new game, save. Look at save files, and the header for the save file is different. the old save files that HL2 no longer recognizes start with JSAXs. The new ones start with JSAVs. Anyone have any idea wtf is going on? I usually run in 64 bit mode, but I don't see the little "64 bit mode active". Nothing on my end has changed - same computer I was using last night when all of my save games were there...

I just now noticed that hl2 runs in 32 bit mode - shows in task manager as hl2.exe *32. So, my guesses are 1) Valve broke 64 bit mode with the latest update. A bunch of files have todays date, so I'd guess that some update was pushed out today, breaking 64 bit mode. 2) Save games while running in 64 bit mode are not compatible with 32 bit mode.

Bloody annoying as hell. All of my save games inaccessible. I spent a couple of hours leisurely working my way through Ravelholm and was almost finished. Now I can't access the save file. grrrrr...

Yeah, I'm on Vista 64. That must be my problem too. I feel your pain there, I was half way through Anticitizen One.

You should be able to start a new game at the beginning of the chapter. Not an ideal solution, I know, but it's better than nothing.

Not for me, I've been using it since Windows XP x64 came out. (yeah I know, terrible OS)

No it hasn't. It was working in 64 bit mode the day before yesterday.

By "busted," he means that it was really crappy. There really wasn't any point to it, since there were a lot of bugs (apparently) and provided no significant advantages over 32-bit.

Is it possible that Valve hearing the problems 64bits got currently for most but not all players switched the default to 32bit from the 64bit. Try typing "-64bit" in the launch options as we do to run in 32bit and see if it comes up in 64 bit with your saves assessable.

I already tried -64bit when I started having this problem, and it does nothing. It appears as though either the 64-bit mode was removed completely, or that there is no -64bit command.

Agree, the -64bit option does not appear to exist/or work. This is very dissapointing. @ Valve
