Seriously, in case you don't pay attention to the PC community, they just destroyed it.

If the community wouldn't be split by dlc then the community wouldn't be split by this, an arcade version could and would be totally compatible with the original TF2 Orange Box.

By releasing an arcade version Valve would increase the player base and increase convenience for those looking to upgrade to the new better version of TF2, having a 20 dollar DLC pack for a game that they sell for that much on the PC would be ridiculous, and only fracture the playerbase more.

It's technically two different games. On Live, it's considered playing TOB, even though you are playing TF2. It would just cause headaches for Valve and Microsoft to delve any deeper.

This is a problem. It should be released in games on demand, since those games can be played online against retail versions.

Exactly, it'd be two completely separate games, different coding, different NETCODE, etc...

Halo ODST uses the multiplayer component of original Halo, you can even get achievements for the original Halo. This alone proves that it's possible. If they can allow you to play with original Halo players while you are playing ODST why wouldn't the same work with TF2?

You are talking about PC playing with xbox via MP. That is not what this discussion is about.

We are talking about two different code sets.

Because both versions of the game are basically the same even though ODST might have components that H3 didn't have... H3 users will not be able to access those features. Basically ODST MP is Halo3 MP. I think they added all the mappacks and have a new game mode that won't work for H3 users other than that it's the same MP game.

That is a different circumstance than what is going on here.

Bungie goes by the same agreement/s as the other developers. I actually saw a video from the guy that runs Xbox Live operations about 3-4 years ago. He stressed several times how 1st party developers are treated the same as 3rd party developers as far as access to Xbox Live operations. This was to make sure other 3rd developers did not feel left out or put at a disadvantage.

Now that doesn't mean Bungie doesn't get heads up because during that time they were a part of MS but as far as having full reign, I would say no based on licensing and basically their overall business plan ie Nintendo scares off 3rd party developers.

I was exaggerating, but I'm sure Microsoft is very "lenient". I would be too, considering that it was Halo that basically launched the Xbox.

I don't know how anyone takes MMXBL seriously. TF2 was a full game when it was released on the console, and now it's pre-beta (because you said so, eh)?
