Yes,
this is a unsolvable bug in Steam,
restart steam is the only way to fix it

im having the same problem now i changed the clientregistryold etc etc ive done everything and i still cant get the game launch!!!

After todays update when i opening cs 1.6 pops out: Failed to initialize authentication interface . Exiting...(sorry for my bad english language)

Yeah, I have the same problem. The steam restart isn't help..

Reinstall cs and steam isn't help.I'm download ftp://www.buka.ru/Steam.exe After install i can play,but when steam update pops out window with this problem :\

Hello,
today impossible to launch all game on steam! dod 1.3, dod source, cs1.6, cod 4, I can't play any more on line dod 1.3 and Cs 1.6 i have same error: " Failed to initalize authentication interfaces. Exiting… " my OS is win 7 and i reinstall steam and dod 1.3 but i have the same problem again. please help the community !!
(sry for my very bad english)

i just found out, this is what the latest update details says :"Steam Client

Improved overlay compatibility from launcher applications
"

and it ♥♥♥d our steam cs lunchers. FIX IT ♥♥♥N VALVE !

I also have this problem where it suddenly appeared ...=((( and nothing helps stim reinstalled did not help = (((please help who knows
