Remember this? :)

Most of you already know this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFeK9...eature=related

Now, was this the City 14 loudspeaker chime (I can hear something like the Combine Dispatcher in it), or an evacuation signal heard in the Borealis/Aperture Science PA system, calling for help ?

Apocalyptic, isn't it

(I know it happened in the Anticitizen One chapter)

I recall you first hearing it in 'Anticitizen One' like you said from the TV Gman is on. In the TV he is an a boat, with a crow on his shoulder, and the TV will turn off when you approach it. They only possible reason I can conjure to why he is in this situation is maybe that the Gman transported Lamarr back from the wasteland she was teleported to at the start of the game. I mean, there are crows there and stuff... ok, I might be a little mad. (Video)

Finally, in the HL2 Beta soundtrack it appears in the song Path Of The Borealis (Most notably at the end)

So yeah, that's the places I can think of it in. Any others?

Yep. You do realize the TV was not plugged in?

Maybe "The G-man show" meant something. Maybe he wants to warn you. It might be a clue, the crow and all. Maybe he's from the Borealis. Maybe it's...

STRIDER ahead !!

The beginning song sounds just like a city loudspeaker to me... And then, like if a phonograph was turned on. (Eee-kkk-eeeee-kkk)

EDIT

This is the backwards version. "Anyone there? Anyone there?"

I heard "Help them Freeman" at the end.

But that song is freaky as hell.

I'm not sure if I remember the rebel humming a tune actually happening in game or just seeing it posted somewhere else on a forum... but I've NEVER heard of the connection: that the tune they hum is the same on the TV. Anyone know the wav file and/or have a link? When they hum, is it one of those random lines or is it at a specific point in one of the titles?

Oops sorry, my bad, it's not the right tune. A friend told me it was, but now I've listened to it it's different. I think it's called 'anser23' in male01 or female01. I think.

Yeah, this was a truly awesome moment.

That broadcast is just creeping me out.

To tell you the thruth, this is the only place where the G-Man scares me - when that TV is broadcasting, and that disturbing signal...

Has anyone e-mailed someone at Valve about it? It seems like there is a whole back story behind it (the broadcast, the backwards message, g-man with the crow on the boat, the TV being unplugged, etc) that I doubt they will explain in ep3, so they might give us some hints about it.

There's a comment from Marc Laidlaw about it somewhere... someone had emailed him the question I believe. If I remember correctly, he didn't give anything away and left it up to interpretation. Of course, I could be making all this up... anyone have a link?

It might actually be kraken base calling the borealis (at least, in the beta) :P

Another interesting tidbit, the captain of Hyperborea (name of the Borealis in the beta) was a guy named Johannsen. It could be that Cave Johnson is the captain of the current Borealis, and that perhaps he didn't die, but disappeared due to some kind of portal malfunction

I tend to think that Mossman's little hide-out we see in her transmission is indeed Kraken Base.

Not a bad idea, really. That'd be an interesting turn to take. I'm quite certain we'll be learning a little more about him in Episode Three and Portal 2 (which, I believe, will be a prequel).
