To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update.) i've downloaded all the newest Bio's, Driver's for my Video Card, Chipset, everything needed, and yet, my computer still refuses to recognize and install my new Video Card. I have a Dell Dimension 8400 OS: Windows XP i am in dire need for help, i have just purchased a surplus of games right before my old card stopped working, and now, i cant play them. help me out fella's. |

I'm not an expert but I spent the last 20 minutes on google trying to find a solution.
Here are some things I found: Quote:

So I guess you'll just have to update the BIOS. But if that doesn't work, you may have to buy a new BIOS. I don't know if this helped you but there is one thing you should know; Google is your friend

those prefab PC's don't come with the best quality parts.
the mobo looks like it is not very flexible but I have limited info on it. can you post a link to the mobo? also what new video card did you buy? |

Simply download and install the BIOS update from Dell for the Dimension 8400 here.
After the download completes, run it to update your BIOS. DO NOT interfere with the update or run other programs while doing so, be prepared to reboot after the update. After you're back in Windows, go here and run the automated program to search for the latest Intel Chipset drivers for your system. . Last edited by Bad_Motha: 10-03-2009 at 01:27 AM. |

True, but depending on the actual motherboard, they usually no longer have the original BIOS type setup as the manufacture had originally. Dell will usually take make their own BIOS for certain motherboards. This system is fairly old and thus this BIOS update should be sufficient for that system as it is a Dell and not a custom build. Most of the time, unless it's an actual INTEL-brand motherboard, you can't even tell what motherboard is inside the Dell system. I've seen them use Asus motherboards in the past and Dell removed all Asus markings from the board to make it their own.
