Best computer for Tf2 (and TOB)?
What would be the best computer for running TOB and TF2 under $1000?

However I will wait for more people to post. I think there are cheaper computers out there that can run TOB without lots of lag. |

The best choice would be to build it yourself, and to ask this in the Hardware subsection.
And yes, I suggest going socket 1156. |

This should work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229061 but honestly why not just build your own?

Since the i7 ibuypower PC for $964.98 was too expensive how about:
Gateway SX2800-03 Core 2 Quad Q8200(2.33GHz) 4GB DDR3 640GB Intel GMA X4500 Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit $449.99 plus $19.99 shipping = $469.98 and you buy an upgraded video card like this one: XFX 4870 1GB Free shipping $139.99 ($20 rebate not included) total = $589.98 Which beats the heck out of this one which came to $724.98. Which has a 4850 and smaller hard drive. ____ Remember, I am just trying to find the least expensive pre-built PC that could run TF2 and Orange Box. The processor might be a little weak, but I would like know whether this is good for the price and TF2 and Orange Box. Last edited by steveroger: 10-03-2009 at 03:46 PM. |

What about a proper power supply though? You will need a decent 400-500 watt to run that 4870.

I am puzzled by the lack of affordable (but quality) power supplies in the 500-600 watt range (ideal for running a single high end GPU). The Corsair 400 watt is $49.99, but the 450 watt model is $75, $100 for 550 watts. Similarly, PC Power & Cooling has a huge gap between the 420 watt Silencer ($50) and a 750 watt model ($120).
The PC could get by with either the 400 watt Corsair (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008) or PCP&P (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703017), but I suppose it's good to have a little headroom. This 500 watt Seasonic is decent, and has the two PCIe connectors necessary for the 4870, unlike the ones above. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151069 For slightly more this Antec Earthwatts (500 watt too) is also good, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371007 It's probably based on the Seasonic model above. There are a number of people in the newegg.com review section claiming that the 400 watt Corsair (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008) is handling their 4870's just fine.
