Yeah it sucks. If you've 3 real life, genuine friends you're sorted, of course, but I'd suggest that most gamers by the very nature of the medium play regularly with people they've never met who live at some distance, if not a different country entirely.

Valve should either put something in place to facilitate these 4-pack sales so they are safe for all 4 buyers.

Right now, everyone has the potential to lose out, except Valve.

Or simply stop hosting threads like these which are facilitating scammers.

Its ironic that if someone were to try and sell their own account legitimately and honestly Valve go out of their way to ban said account, get ebay to delete any auctions etc etc.

Yet they are basically inviting scammers to come here and vend games on their own forums both by permitting the thread to exist, and by adding the discount incentive encouraging folk to group together like this in the first place (Even calling it a "gift" idea is pretty asinine and insulting to our intelligence - No one is going to buy 4 copies of a game to give 3 of them away as a "gift")

You make a very good point. I can almost think of no circumstance where someone would want to buy 3 games as a gift unless you have a whole family who games together (very rare). Games are really damn expensive, too, its not like a 5 dollar job.

They should have made it where when everyone send the sufficient amount, the transaction goes through and everyone receives their purchase. It still gives incentive for people to pick up the deal while making everybody safe.

I'd like to add to this that i did get another offer and it was done with both of us talking over steam and adding each other to friends lists to talk each other through our parts. That didnt happen with redd123, so i should take part of the blame for not insisting it to be done that way. but its now in paypals hands and he refuses to contact me or paypal so i should get my money back, its just a hassle.
Edit: also i would avoid those who have just joined the forums and have extremely low post counts ie their first post is them offering their copies
edit 2: hcsteven may be a scammer .. its odd that he appeared the same day i started my dispute against reddd123 (but if someone deals with him without issues i'll remove this edit)

Reddd123 just seems like a scammer... unless you gave him an email to send it to instead of your steam username. Maybe steam got confused and didn't automatically give it to your steam account?

And HcSteven, I sent you the PM with the info.

Here is google cache proof that Reddd123 is the same person as HcSteven... One email Reddd123 stated... the other email HcSteven stated... the $33 dollar share of the gift was kind of a clue too, since it isn't evenly divided between the $150 fee.

Anyone who suffered from HcSteven/Reddd123, please, PM me - we can help each other.

Avoid him at all cost! I have an open PayPal dispute with him for now.

if all those affected could direct paypal to this thread and to each other im sure all will be sorted faster and that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will be busted so much faster

Avoiding entering into a transaction with a user who has a Join Date in the last month is also probably wise.

Yep, but it's worse than that. It's not just a lack of a feature to help, it's the fact that Valve clearly know people are not going to give 3 copies away, yet they encourage folk to buy 4-packs Then they add a clause to the subscriber agreement effectively allowing them to close all of these accounts at any time in the future for selling or buying a game in a 4-pack!

Which is, completely asinine. It's fairly self-evident (not just from this thread but from common sense) that the vast majority of Steam sales of these 4-packs have been purchased to be sold.

(In fact, I'd be willing to be there isn't a single instance of a sale of a 4-pack by valve that wasn't sold)

Valve really need to clarify this, because I'd suggest a fair number of Valve customers have effectively put themselves in a position where Valve could, if they wished, close all their accounts. Though I'm not suggesting they intend to do this, if they don't, why have the clause in the first place?

Just a quick update that paypal have finished my dispute with reddd123/HCsteven in my favor and the funds will be returned to me, So im guessing anyone else effected will have the same happening in a few days.
