no gameinfo.txt

---------------------------
VConfig Error
---------------------------
Setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\bin\vconfig'.
Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Downloaded L4D SDK and trying to run hammer I get this nasty error. And since the forum search function has disappeared (or I've gone blind) I can't find any information on it.

Any ideas?

Try verifying your cache. It looks like something is pointing to the wrong path.

Did you start Left 4 Dead at least once? As far as I'm concerned the gameinfo.txt file is created upon starting a source game for the first time.

I know it might seem obvious but have you checked that the gameinfo.txt does exist in your L4D folder?

if No-Start l4d start a SP game and save exit and try it then.

if Yes-Just make sure it is in the right folder, in your case C:\program files\steam\steamapps\[name]\left 4 dead\l4d - I think that is the right folder but i havnt got L4d so i cant be sure.

Hope that helped.
