Killing Floor-Extreme Loading/Lag
Hello,i bought Killing Floor the other day,but its almost unplayable, and i don't know why D:
The loading screen, no matter what its loading, takes up to 10 minutes to finish! After the ten minutes or so, i start the game, and experience a crazy amount of lag too. This is for both multiplayer and solo. My computers about 3 years old, but according to rumour Killing Floor is even older xD All my windows updates have been installed, and i even defragmented lastnight Manufacturer: Compaq OS-Windows Vista (32-bit) Processor: Intel Celeron M (1.60ghz) 32-bit RAM: 1GB not sure what other information would be neccesary,so just let me know what else is needed and ill post it. (Dont have my laptop on hand >.>) Last edited by shout-it-out: 10-28-2009 at 10:38 AM. |

Try this for your loading times, skip the second step. Use it only when absolutely necessary. About your lag. Are you using Bitdefender or another Antivirus? Exclude the Killing Floor folder from scanning. Solved my lag/freeze problem instantly. Both things worked like a charm for me. The game loads in less than 30 seconds, maps included, even WestLondon. Also no more lags or freezes for me. The game is insanely fun now. |

I cant try these for a few hours, but i got my fingers crossed o.o Oh yeah, whats so dangerous about the second step? EDIT: It turns out i have about 1GB of RAM, and 1.60ghz of processing speed, is anythign wrong with those numbers, and taking those into consideration, are either of the two steps still a good idea? there are many games out here can you name a few.
I never hear about P2P games ,is that a file sharing game? if intel is also your video my bet on that. killing floor needs a directx 9 supported video the games you named do not. Last edited by kakkerlak: 10-28-2009 at 11:43 AM. |

Well,Killing Floor is my first STEAM game xD In p2p games, your computer communicates with other players through each others internet connections, as opposed to our computers communicating through (for example) STEAM servers
Games ive played inclue; S4 league (FPS), Flyff, (mmorpg), Shin Megami Tensei (mmorpg) aaand thats all i can think of atm xD |

those games look lightweight to me.
its like apples and pears , maybe you don't have the correct pixel shader for killing floor or tons of other stuff your video does not support. you just can't compair random games. if you are on intel video thats my bet. edit: think I edited a wrong post damn tabed browsing :P I think those games you played do not require a directx 9 compatible videocard. No, im pretty sure they all use DirectX9 xD, which is deffinately compatible with my computer, since pretty much everything uses it o.o And theres deffinately people with intel graphics cards who can play the game just fine.
I've no idea what you mean by pixel shading though, how would i know if i have the correct pixel shading? |

Ok, you have multiple problems. Your RAM and your videochip.
You're running Windows Vista with only one GB of RAM. That is not good. If possible, get more RAM, that will speed up your Laptop a lot in every aspect. Not only in games. Second, disabling the Precaching leads to shorter loading times, but will cause performance problems while playing. Especially on PCs with low amounts of RAM. That's why i don't recommend it. Third, your videochip is a big concern right now. I have an idea what to do. KF won't be as pretty as it's now, but the performance should be a lot better. http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...ad.php?t=30754 To find out what kind of videocard you have, do the following: 1. Press and hold your Windows key (normally found between the <Ctrl> and <Alt> keys on either side of the <spacebar>) and then the R key to bring up your system's Run dialogue window. 2. Lastly, where you see Open:, simply type dxdiag and click on the OK button. 3. Select Display and look up what your videocard is. Here is a screenshot of my Dxdiag (which is german) http://img3.imageshack.us/i/20091029053039.png/ I marked the important part. 4. Post here what your videocard is. About the games you play: S4 League: DirectX 7.0 videocard required, not 9.0 FlyFF: DirectX 7.0 videocard required, not 9.0 Shin Megami Tensei: DirectX 8.0a videocard required, not 9.0 Killing Floor: DirectX 9.0 videocard kinda required, DX8 modus possible with INI tweak mentioned above. Also, Killing Floor is a RAM eater, it eats RAM for breakfast, brunch, lunch, teatime and dinner. I have 2GB and Windows XP (which uses a lot less than Vista, which is a RAM eater too) and i had to work with KF to make it run flawlessly and reduce the loading times. |
